SummitMedia Mixes Up Louisville

106.9 FM is now Hot AC in Louisville.

SummitMedia has relaunched AC “106.9 Play” WVEZ St. Matthews/Louisville as “Mix 106.9” with a music shift to Hot AC.

WVEZ is now positioning as “The Best Variety of 2K and Today” as it removes most of its library from before 2000. The station retains its current on-air lineup of Jesse Ras and MJ in mornings and Jordan Rivers in afternoons. WVEZ had been branded as “106.9 Play” since January 2016 as part of its evolution from its former “Lite 106.9” identity.

I think they are more in competition with DJX now .the lines of CHR and Hot AC are so blurred now they are almost indistinguishable ..and as far as last place 100.5 being completely automated is doing them absolutely no good..zero on-air talent is not going to bring you numbers especially when iHearts very own commercial free streaming offers of similar formats are way superior over their actual terrestrial broadcasts

The Saturday night 80s lineup that has been a prominent feature of 106.9 for the past decade (well, originally it was all weekend) aside from the Christmas music breaks was notably gone last night. That was about the only good thing left on 106.9. I found an old article about it, it looks the 80s lineup started around 4th of July weekend in 2011.

I’m surprised they still use the same call letters
There is some legacy to call letters, even if a format has evolved. Otherwise, you end up changing the calls over and over again, until nobody remembers what they are or who they're associated with. Look at how many times iHeart has changed the call letters on 100.5 in Louisville. That one is not exactly hitting the ball out of the park.

And never will hit the ball out of the park in its present form. They should have let 100.5 rock. I liked the gen x format but 2 much repetition.

90's based formats tend to have a problem with repetition. There are some signs that it's starting to become more appealing, but 90's music has largely tended to be a wasteland. Too many 90's songs have been instant tune outs for too many potential listeners.

As far as a hot ac morning shows go i did like lambert and lindsey with arron miller better on the max than i do mj and jesse on mix 106.9.

I liked georges rapster piece theatre or lindas 60 seconds inside her head. Or arrons story book corner.

But just my opinion. But mj and jesse are fine.
