"Awesome" coming to Birmingham?

With SummitMedia debuting their new classic hits "Awesome" format in Richmond, could there be more "Awesome" stations to come? Could their "97.3 PLAY" WPYA here in Birmingham be next? Here is article on "the other radio forum" about the possibility of SummitMedia debuting other "Awesome" branded stations (just wondering...is it still a bad word to use the name of that forum on here, lol?). Yeah, I know you can't read the article in its entirety bc it is for RD premium members.

Factors to consider:
97.3 has never attempted a classic hits format, even though they've had eight different formats in 22 yrs time that the station has been on the air.

There are currently no other stations in Birmingham offering a classic hits format

The Hot adult contemporary format is a lost cause here in Birmingham (always has been)

97.3's ratings are abysmal, so it's about that time to spin the format wheel again. In the last ratings period, WPYA was near the bottom, behind two of the low powered FM translators (105.1 "Hallelujah FM" and "104.1 "The Beat" and WAGG-AM). The only other (subscribing) stations which fared worse than WPYA were the other FM translators in town, WJQX "JOX 2", WJOX-AM and WENN-AM.-->Nielsen Audio Ratings

Actually, it has. WODL was moved there when Cox launched WBPT "The Point" on 106.9. It ran it 70's-centric classic hits format. I don't remember it lasting terribly long, though.

Yes, I stand corrected. The station always referred to their short-lived format as "70s oldies" which I guess is why it slipped my mind.
