ESPN made it official.
It will be interesting to see how they do both the NHL and the NBA.

This is probably why they are only doing half of the playoffs. It will be interesting to see how they do both the NHL and the NBA.
Only 25 regular season games on ESPN and ABC. That is very doable without running into conflicts with the NBA or college basketball on the cable and OTA channels. The deal is forward-thinking, very heavy on internet and streaming, which gain in importance every year as cable and OTA continue their extended decline. I would imagine, though, that it will be accompanied by an increase in the monthly fee for ESPN+, which has already gone from $5 to $6.This is probably why they are only doing half of the playoffs.

NBCSN (and Versus before it) was always behind a paywall. A much higher one than the fairly nominal fee for ESPN+.
Also moving to ESPN+ is the NHL.TV out-of-market streaming service. It is the equivalent of the NHL Center Ice package available on cable/satellite providers. It appears it will become an add-on/additional fee to the current ESPN+ offerings.I wonder how many ESPN+ subscribers are interested in hockey. That's usually a narrow group,
Somehow Disney sees this as adding value to ESPN+. I'm not so sure.
Seems to me that by putting it behind a paywall, the NHL is limiting exposure to their sport.
A lot of people who complained about not having NBCSN, as well as FS1, actually had the services all along, but were too lazy to look for them in their channel lineups. And often they were on the same tier as the various ESPN outlets. My subscription to NBCSN was included in my complete sports package, which includes a bunch of channels, for about the same price as ESPN+ ($5 a month). NBC is proposing to move the NHL to USA Network, which is part of basic cable.
Sounds like they will, though FS1 and CBS Sports Network could use more higher profile sports.
They still have NASCAR and IndyCar racing. So all nbc will have left is nfl and soccer pretty much I believe.
They also have some local nba affiliates. They still have NASCAR and IndyCar racing.
Horse racing's Triple Crown, too, although in years that different horses win the first two races in the series, the third, the Belmont Stakes, draws few eyeballs. And don't forget the Olympics, which, it appears, will be held this summer AND next winter. They still have NASCAR and IndyCar racing.

Not on the national network. They also have some local nba affiliates.
Hence the reason I said local affiliates nbc sports boston being the main one I guess they have nbc sports affiliates with baseball as well for that matter. Nbc sports bay area has most of the oakland athletics games. Not on the national network.
