WHUR Adds Translator For The Quiet Storm Station

Translator is on 98.3 FM in Virginia.
The soft soothing sound of WHUR’S 24/7 Quiet Storm Station is expanding, giving more Washington, D.C. area listeners a chance to experience the relaxing romantic format. Listeners with analog radios can now tune in to hear their favorite slow jams non-stop on 98.3FM.

The expansion comes as the heritage flagship station 96.3 WHUR FM is set to mark its 50th Anniversary this year. “WHUR has long been a trailblazer in the industry and we are always looking for new opportunities to expand our brand. The addition of 98.3FM now allows us to have a greater reach across the DMV,” said WHUR General Manager Sean Plater.

Lots of people in the footprint of its strongest signal. Is there much of a potential audience in big suburbs like Arlington, Alexandria, Bethesda, etc., or will the listeners primarily be upscale African Americans in Washington itself? Quiet Storm is essentially a sub-genre of Urban AC. Is it more likely to attract white listeners than straight-up Urban AC has been over the years?

Also, I realize that translator calls are issued alphabetically and no "meaningful" calls are available by request, but "DC-98.3" would work as a positioner for this one!

I'm betting this is a year long lease to celebrate the show's anniversary. Prior to this 98.3 was relaying Hubbard's "The Gamut" with commercial-free eclectic music. This station will be commercial free also, but with the limited signal probably won't hurt their commercial operation.
