February numbers are here

February numbers: Houston/Galveston - RadioInsight

KTRH drops back down.

93Q moving ahead of The Bull. Entercom changes at the latter having a negative effect on 100.3?

Surprised at the recent slump of KRBE. Negative effects of current output in the CHR music genres?

Also curious about the slump of Latino Mix.

Country Legends continues to impress for a rimshot.

Classical and Praise continue to have a pulse on HD subchannels.

And our favorite dumpster fire, KROI, sinks even further into the zeroes--it's even behind KTSU and KHCB. New tower apparently came online after this book, so we'll see if it helps in the future. If not, Radio One has got to make changes.

Could the passing of Rush + Trump being out of the spotlight be causing the slump?

I didn't even realize they made changes. I think it's time to consider if the changes in demographics can still support two country stations + one classic country station.

I believe most Top 40/CHR stations began a slump during the pandemic. Most haven't recovered.
Also curious about the slump of Latino Mix.
That local stick could be doing a lot better. But what else could Univision do with that signal? KOVE is already as close to Spanish AC as you can get and KLTN does Regional Mexican. Maybe wait out for Entercom to bow out? Or maybe try an English language format again?

For Univision, going outside of their wheelhouse seems like a hit or miss. When they owned KIOT in ABQ, it used to be a pretty good Classic Rock station. On the other hand, KBVH has been disappointing and is likely cannibalizing KBBT. KVVF/KVVZ was also a failure in the Bay Area as a Hip Hop station.
Country Legends continues to impress for a rimshot.
One of the best sounding stations in the market. Ratings wise, I selfishly hope it's an indicator of people getting tired of "hick" hop (or tractor rap). I just can't stand this new generation of awful country music.

I still think market needs to lose a country station. There aren't enough ratings to go around for all three.
Classical and Praise continue to have a pulse on HD subchannels.
IIRC, it only takes a handful of PPM subscribers to make a station show up in the ratings.

Having said that, I would be interested to see these formats on an analog signal. KROI probably saw its highest ratings during the Praise days. The format seems to work in other southern cities. Why not Houston?

KPFT would probably raise more money if they switched to a classical format. But Pacifica gonna Pacifica.

And KLOL-HD2...now there's a format I would throw on KQBU. Sure it's a dead format that's practically all oldies. But if I'm Univision, I would tinker with the format and attempt to modernize it for the growing second generation Mexican American population. If "Hurban" can work and cross over into Mexican American majority markets, then so can Tejano (especially in this state). It's just going to take some work. Not much to lose considering KQBU is a spare signal and KLTN is a glorified Talk format.

And our favorite dumpster fire, KROI, sinks even further into the zeroes--it's even behind KTSU and KHCB. New tower apparently came online after this book, so we'll see if it helps in the future. If not, Radio One has got to make changes.
The signal seems better. KROI used to cut off between Columbus and Sealy. Now it seems to go as far as LaGrange before it gets completely drowned out by KNRG.

But will it make a difference in ratings? Probably not. Call me crazy, but I find myself enjoying the music selection. I don't care for their shows, so hearing their morning show or Tino Cochino (which makes very little sense in a station like KROI) immediately turns me towards Spotify.
