Sirius Credit Where Credit Is Due

Was driving my Volvo XC60 the other day, and noticed that the Sirius-feed from their new geosynchronous satellite pair sounded noticeably better. Much more dynamic range and increased frequency response for the music channels. Also, gone was the swishy high end with high hats and cymbals. Their talk channels sounded about the same, but those are limited bitrates coming into their plant anyway. Seems like the Sirius audio better matches what's been the superior sounding XM side.

Well done!

Good to know! Once the complimentary 6 month subscription to SiriusXM expired for my vehicle, I didn't bother renewing even though they were offering a 6 month subscription for something like $25 which is nothing. My primary reasons for not surbscribing were that 1) There are plenty of broadcast/terrestrial stations here that I like, but also 2) Music stations especially on Sirius sounded overly compressed and/or thin to the point where I didn't care to listen. No crisp highs or solid bass.

I'll give them a listen during their next free weekend offering which they do every few months. If it sounds better than the last time I checked, I may consider subscribing. Aside from the music offerings, it's always good to have the S/XM news channels in times of major events, and I like to check out Howard Stern on occasion.

I don't recall that happening back in 2020.

Of course, I think the only vehicle that I'd try every once in a while was in my Hyundai. The two Honda's...not so much.

Last year's lasted about two months. Seemed like a courtesy because of the onset of the pandemic and stay-at-home orders.
I haven't heard a promo for any upcoming free periods.

Well, that potentially explains it. My family and I really didn't go far March, April and into May last year.
