Max Media Denver KJHM and KFCO

I was in Denver a couple of weeks ago and I was impressed with the sound of KJHM, Jammin' 101.5. The imaging is slick and the music selection is on target. The 80's and 90's Dance/R&B mix reminds me of high school, going into my first years in CHR in the early 90's(kind of giving away my age here). This station sounds similar to XHRM/San Diego, KOAS/Las Vegas and Mega 97.9 Fresno. I heard the same two personalities the whole time, when the station wasn't running jockless, and they had an Urban AC style and delivery. They are not heavy at all on classic hip-hop, so they could be more "Jammin'" if they wanted to, but they sound targeted toward the upper end 25-54 females and they are "at-work" friendly. I think they're missing an energetic night/weekend voicetracker, but it's probably not in the budget. They are on the iHeartRadio app, so I still listen to them occasionally.

Hot 107.1 sounded okay, but they have been going through an identity crisis. It seems they don't know exactly where they're going. Do they go head-to-head with KPTT, or KQKS? Their previous name, "FLO 107.1", was weak and getting them nowhere. The station sounds better overall now, but they need to put more money into this station and create and execute a game plan if they are going to run with the big dogs.

I've heard some people mention their signal problems, but I had no problem picking up both of these stations loud and clear in my rental car anywhere I went.

It's pretty sad that Denver still lacks a full market signal for hard rock.

KBPI - which was poorly programmed long before losing its blowtorch signal at 106.7 FM - ain't cutting it. The morning show sucks and is likely a big reason for the mediocre performance. Look at Colorado Springs; KBPI's numbers there stink. KILO crushes it in the ratings.

Salt Lake City has not one, but two (!!!) such stations. Why can't Denver have one? Instead of running a failing Rhythmic-leaning CHR format, perhaps 107.1 should flip to Rock?

Today's KBPI is not a Denver station. It's a Ft. Collins / Cheyenne station. It has a translator in Denver, but with limited "good signal" coverage.

Station owners know that rock is a fading format in a rhythmic world. How many successful newly formatted rock stations have there been in the last decade or so?

Rock 106.7 in Salt Lake City
105.9 The Brew in Portland, OR
Planet Radio 107.3 in Jacksonville, FL
93.9X in Indianapolis, IN (not a big success, but given the limitations of its signal, not faring too badly)

One could say the same thing about any number of other formats. How many successful new Hot AC launches have occurred in the top 100 markets over the past decade? Country? News/Talk?

Completely agree about KBPI no longer being a "real" Denver station.

In this "rhythmic" world, I see legendary Urban stations such as 107.5 WGCI pulling terrible numbers, and legendary Rhythmic CHR stations such Power 96 in Miami pulling terrible numbers. Jerry D.C. is right; that audience is using over-the-air radio less and less.

KBPI is a trimulcast with 2 full powers in Ft Collins and Colorado Springs and a translator in Denver all with the same programming

and all on 107.9 no less. the translator in Denver is HD fed and the translator is directional to try and minimize interference from the real KBPI near fort collins
