Univision and Televisa deal

Univision and Televisa have been partners for years. Televisa provides the bulk of programming, especially popular novellas.
That goes way back to Univision's days as SIN (Spanish International Network) an acronym choice I could never understand. Besides its obvious negative connotation in English, "sin" means "without" in Spanish.

Sounds like a name for an adult movie channel.😂

Actually, Televisa does not provide the bulk of Univision programming. What it provides are some novelas, a few comedy shows that "translate" to US Hispanic vocabulary and lifestyles, and some sports. The bulk of Univision shows come from their own production facilities in Miami, including news, most sports, some soaps and lots of variety and music shows.

A bunch of the soaps come from Colombia and even Turkey now.

The partnership is based on sharing productions and obtaining Latin American rights to shows from outside the Americas that can be used throughout the continents.

SIN, formed in '62, was sold to Halmark by the originators, led by René Anselmo, because of an investigation that seemed to show that Televisa controled SIN and was the true owner.

Okay, many of the most popular shows and novellas come from Televisa. At least that's the way it was a few years ago when the group I worked for had several Univision affillated stations.

Univision announced new leadership.
