KLTR 94.1 is coming

From activity and deliveries at the tower site, it appears construction on the recently upgraded KLTR facility will soon commence. Either the local.translator will have to go silent, or we will see.yet another round of interference complaints and legal filings between Roy and Pastor Guevara.Screenshot_20210417-091000.png

I was in Brenham a few days ago and KLTR seemed weaker than before.

I wonder why Henderson didn't build the old CP? It would have put a good signal into Bryan/College Station. This permit doesn't do much expect cover more cows.

Hopefully that means a format change, too. No reason to have satellite Westwood One AC covering Katy, Cypress, and College Station...

I'm not even sure how well these towns would be covered by the new facility. KLTR used to have a better CP that would have made it a bonafide B/CS station. Unfortunately, it seems the economics to become a B/CS station no longer make sense. Since KLTR's original CP was granted, seven new commercial translators and two commercial FM move-ins now call B/CS home.

If I'm Roy, I would upgrade KLTR and then let the pastor, his ex-wife, and Cumulus go into a bidding war. All of them could use the station in some way, shape or form.

To be fair, there is a co-channel station east of Houston (KQXY) that could prevent an upgrade, at least if you want a stronger signal in Houston?

Ugh this will probably interfere with K231DA more than K231CN currently does. I was hoping this wouldn’t be built like their last construction permits. KLTR did seem weak last time I drove by on 290. There’s no RDS on this station.

Last I heard, Roy had a conversion to Christianity and is traveling in his RV preaching...go figure

Is KLTR the only thing keeping KQXY from rimshotting Houston?
It seems like it. There is another Roy Henderson station down in Port Lavaca, KJAZ, but it doesn't look to interfere with any potential upgrade once KLTR is out of the way.

Unless there is a license I missed, everything looks clear towards North, Northeast, and east for an upgrade.

KQXY is a C1 but not fully used...its 100kw at 180mtrs...C1s can do 100kw at 300mtrs...doubt it can go full C, maybe C0 but there could be IF spacing issues and 94.5 is only 2 channels off in Houston and Lafayette. I doubt Cumulus will spend money to upgrade it into a rimshot for Houston. The ROI wouldn't be there and it would compete with KRBE, Cumulus' real money maker..

Assuming “upgrading” to Devers/Winnie is even possible and I am not so sure it is, I imagine they would not keep a Golden Triangle targeted CHR as the format.
