That would be a good thing.
When you have an agreement ($$$) with Sinatra's estate, as Sirius did at the time, you saturate the playlist with Sinatra. Garth Brooks has a channel that plays at least four Brooks songs every hour. Kenny Chesney has No Shoes Radio, which plays a lot of Chesney. Margaritaville drowns its listeners in Jimmy Buffett. Willie's Roadhouse plays a few tracks from "the boss," as one of the jocks/Nelson shills calls Willie, every hour. Legal payola, it's a wonderful thing.I listened to "Seriously Sinatra" quite a number of years ago. At that time, it was the worst example of a standards station. There was no variety. And no real radio station plays Sinatra every other song.

If employees of broadcast stations, program producers, program suppliers or others accept or agree to receive payments, services or other valuable consideration in exchange for airing material, federal law and FCC rules require broadcasters to fully disclose this fact to audiences at the time the programming is aired.
iHeartRadio's "The Standard" did last time I checked. And no real radio station plays Sinatra every other song.
They have a perfect right to have a Sinatra channel of that type, but they need to offer a real standards channel. And not 40s Junction, which is good but something different. I suggested to them that they make a deal with WHVN Charlotte to put that station's collection on one of their channels. When you have an agreement ($$$) with Sinatra's estate, as Sirius did at the time, you saturate the playlist with Sinatra. As if a New York-based, New York-centric corporation like SXM would ever think making a deal with a small station in flyover country would help its programming! They have a perfect right to have a Sinatra channel of that type, but they need to offer a real standards channel. It's not about where the station is. It's about how good the music mix is.As if a New York-based, New York-centric corporation like SXM would ever think making a deal with a small station in flyover country would help its programming!
Agree, but SXM is more impressed with success and reputation in the top media markets than anything else when it comes to choosing outside program creators. It's not about where the station is. It's about how good the music mix is.
Going to court over this sort of thing is lengthy and expensive. Sometimes it's easier to try and see if your opponent rolls-over, and be ready to cut bait if it looks like your legal expenses will exceed any future financial benefit.Explains why SXM is so gunshy about going to court, doesn't it? Its legal eagles aren't exactly the best and brightest Noo Yawk has to offer, apparently.
