KMAK power

Yes , but they are not in stereo.

Just curious, how are you determining they're using more power?

I dont think they increased their power, i think switching from stereo mode to mono gives that appearance plus Tropo conditions have been strong lately.

The signal level is alot stronger in the Hanford - Lemoore area as well as Visalia - Tulare. Sure looks like that KMAK has increased the ERP. Not just that they are in momo. Also heard that the LMA was not willing to pay back lease payments until the signal was increased.

I'm sure it's nothing but summer propagation effects. KMAK's owner, I don't think, is going to risk a heavy fine by going over his authorized power.
Tune up and down the band- there are all kinds of signal enhancements and/or degradations from the 'norm". KNGS 94.5 is pounding into Fresno this morning, completely obliterating the Coarsegold 94.5. The Bakersfield area class As are even making it.

Picking up KMAK along Highway 99. OK in the Visalia - Tulare area but ruff and dropping out south of Tulare. The Audio is very very poor.

Mega-100 -- in Stockton on 100.1 is just pounding into parts of Fresno and the valley all the way into Tulare and Kings counties. Can't even get 100.3 - KMAK in some spots of Fresno.

Tis the season.

Fall is always a fun time for thermal ducting in the Sacramento Valley.

Listened to KMAK this past week. They still seem to be promoting "Más Fuerte Que Nunca." (Stronger than ever). Their 72 watts ERP corresponds to the max power for a Class A at that HAAT. . The signal does really cover a wide area. I can easily hear them in Hanford, VIsalia and of course Fresno.

The audio URL recently posted to their Facebook page is :

But no signal density. Those low power high antennas yield great distances, but little to no building penetration. Great for radio nerds, but not the average listener aside from listening into the car.

Yep. When I was responsible for 98.3 in the San Gabriel Valley in the LA market, the previous owner had moved it way up on a "sub peak" on the San Gabriel mountains at well under 1 kw. The station had a bad signal everywhere, but to management the 55 dbu in northern Orange County fooled them.

In the hilly and mountainous LA market, it got tons of multipath in cars, so the high HAAT was very negative.

So we re-engineered and went down to the center of the valley at 6 kw at maximum height for the class. The result was that the station contributed more than three times the audience to the KRCD KRCD combo, pushing it occasionally into the top 10 stations.
