Premiere Announces New Hosts For Rush Slot

At 3PM today Premiere Networks will officially announce that Clay Travis and Buck Sexton will take over the three hour time slot previously held by Rush Limbaugh (12p-3P eastern).

Interesting. I'm having a difficult time keeping up on the whole Premier/iHeart stations vs. Cumulus stations and Bongino vs. now Travis and Sexton. Does this mean that nearly all stations and networks/media companies that once carried Limbaugh now have a viable plan for replacing him, vs. the current offering of a "guide host" chatting about current news items and then introducing a Rush rant from the show archives?

Note Ihearts Premiere division has announced that Clay Travis and Buck Sexton will be the new hosts. KFBK Sacramento one of the former affiliate and Flagship for Rush Limbaugh is most likely to get these two hosts. I do not know how many Iheart Owned stations will air this show for now.

Interesting choice of hosts. It would have been very difficult for one person to "replace" Rush, this makes it a little different. Should have done it a couple months ago.

I’m confused by this. I thought Dan Bongino was replacing Rush Limbaugh? Did Premiere change their minds and decide to go with Clay Travis and Buck Sexton instead?

Not necessarily a good move for Clay Travis. He was heading towards a more political direction anyway, but this will likely end his credibility in most sports shows, since his political opinions are quite opposed to those of most athletes.

Bongino is replacing Rush on Cumulus. This is replacing Rush on iHeart. Every company is doing their own thing. Cox is doing Erick Erikson. Audacy is using The Dana Show. No more one big show any more.

Does this mean we get to start the whole: 'what if this talent took over for Rush?'-thread?
Lord have mercy...

In an article last week about Audacy filling Rush's former time slot with The Dana Show, they also mentioned that some stations are carrying Compass Media's "Markley, Van Camp and Robbins".

One has to wonder if these transitions might have a negative effect on the AM band. At the time Rush started building his affiliate count and becoming really well-known, some said it was a short in the arm at minimum, or a revival at best, for AM radio. Now that Rush is gone and his former station list is now fragmented and at least 1/2 dozen hosts or shows are taking over his old noon-3 slot, and none of these new hosts seem to be "household names", will people spend time listening to the newer offerings, or will they pine for the days of Rush and find something else to listen to?

The whole Rush re-runs felt really weird to me. Like an after party. Great fun for the first bit, but people slowly start going home. How much crowd is still left for the new hosts?

And more importantly, how old is the demo now? 75?

Nothing to be confused about. Rush was syndicated by iHeart. Westwood One (Cumulus), which is a different company, introduced a new show for its News/Talk affiliates. (I'm sure Cumulus is happy to have Bongino thought of as the "Rush replacement".). Bongino was not and is not a Premiere product.

Maybe they are happy about that.... It gave the introduction of the Bongino show some extra publicity.

In some cities where these recent new right wing talk shows are taking over Rush spot. They are on FM or in the case of Iheart with the Clay Travis and Buck Sexton show boost attention to their audio app.
