Alt Gone in Harrisburg

I thought the same thing, with all there stations under performing (even fun 101 with 5th place) what do they have to loose? Sports radio is to niche. Face it, sports fans turn it on for football. When it is off season, nobody listens. They could put on PA polka and still have same .3 rating. BTW, Whos idea was it to make 92.5 simulcast 92.7? Both my car radios have lay over from each others stations at times and gets "scratchy " at times driving around Lancaster area.
You probably know this but 92.5 is actually licensed to be a translator of 1490 AM, which 92.7 simulcasts. I'm surprised the FCC let this fly, but I suppose it's okay since Hall is just interfering with themselves.

Which format are you referring to? Univision does not have an "Hispanic" format. It has a broad variety of formats that are in the Spanish language. And they are not even the principal syndicator of radio content; Sun Latino has more offerings and full format syndication.
the format used by wrto fm miami is a fresh crisp format was what i was referring to.

That is not a syndicated format, and it is dead last out of the Miami Spanish language FMs.

Today, I found out two things about Harrisburg.

1. Just over half of the city's population is African-American.
The Harrisburg MSA is 9% black.

Nielsen does not do ratings for individual cities; it rates markets which are county based. Harrisburg is a four country metro of Cumberland, Dauphin, Lebanon and Perry counties.

It is also almost 8% Hispanic.

But besides targeting the main city of the MSA, why else would iHeartMedia implement the urban contemporary format on WHKF?

With WHKF being a class A station, its signal is marginal in parts of Perry, Lebanon, Cumberland, and even northern Dauphin County. It's no surprise that WHKF is targeting Harrisburg and it's immediate surroundings, where the signal is strong. Additionally, its "local" 60 dBu countour almost reaches York, which is about 25% African American.

However, the York Nielsen market is only 6.1% Black; As I said before, Nielsen does not measure cities... it measures metro areas. In this case, all of Adams and York counties.

I wish someone would bring back WTPA. They had a nice mainstream mix of new and old going there before being dumped by Pat Garrett. Get some familiar faces from the past like Amy Warner in there and mix them up with some fresh blood that actually cares about radio like the old days. Seemed like The X had a number of them that came through before People's Morning Show lost Earl. Heck, if they even wanted to syndicate a morning show they could "bring back" Todd Brandt and Mike Tyler and have the Todd N Tyler Radio Empire in Central PA.
