Awesome 99.5

Was in Greenville and sampled Awesome 99.5 today. IMO, it’s better than Jack FM was. More focused on 80s and a sprinkling of 90s and a little bit of 70s. The playlist is similar but more focused. Still better than The Lake IMO.

I’m not sure of another market anywhere around that has so many classic/variety/whatever stations. 99.5, 102.5, 103.3/95.9, 101.1 overlaps a ton then theres 98.9 and 104.9 to an extent. People in Atlanta beg for one station like these but we have them coming out of our ears for some reason. What’s funny is there was basically no gold based station other than 101.1 in GSP 10 years ago.

I enjoy the variety hits format and the new Awesome is a nice upgrade. I now find the hit music stations more annoying than entertaining, as I prefer music from the 80's and 90's much better.

Yawn.
The only time I liked 99.5 was when it was Chuck. They literally played "everything" for a while. I heard Whitney Houston, Johnny Cash, Journey, Frank Sinatra. It was definitely fun.

Chuck FM on 97.7 when it launched and for the first few years was awesome. The music mix had gone downhill by the time it moved to 99.5, and got worse as Jack, but it was still better than the snoozefest known as The Lake with a better playlist. 101.7 Chuck FM in Charleston is still pretty good.

Listened to Awesome 99.5 a lot driving around this weekend. It sounds REALLY good - processing and signal are great (99.5 is the best translator signal in GSP). I do hope they get the 80s sounding jingles the “Awesome” stations in Richmond and Knoxville have. It’s also cool to hear Earl Mann doing voiceovers.

99.5 is much more pop leaning than 102.5 The Lake, with Earth FM somewhere in the middle. I do wonder if Ace and TJ will move from 98.5 as theyre carrried on the Awesome stations in Knoxville and Richmond that Summit owns.

Looks like Ace and TJ would be a better fit on 99.5 than 98.5. But in many areas you can get them on their flagship station 96.1 .

Exactly, another boring morning show. I like the music but when they start talking I'm hitting the button.
Awesome 100.9 in Richmond has Ace and TJ as well. Summit is either a really big fan of the show or they have a deal with iHeart as they are putting it on the air in every market they can.

Both Richmond and Knoxville are iHeart-free so they can clear an iHeart show. That's why Summit carries Bobby Bones in Knoxville.
