Holly Edgell to Lead Midwest Newsroom Collaboration

https://news.****************/articles/n40671/Holly-Edgell-to-Lead-Midwest-Newsroom-Collaboration

KCUR/Kansas City announces that longtime journalist and editor Holly Edgell will become the first managing editor of the Midwest Newsroom -- a public radio collaboration among stations in Missouri, Kansas, Iowa and Nebraska -- beginning July 6. Edgell will help define the editorial vision that's focused on investigative reporting, and will develop a strategy for executing it, according to KCUR General Manager Sarah Morris. KCUR is the lead station for the collaboration, which includes managing partners Nebraska Public Media, Iowa Public Radio, St. Louis Public Radio and NPR.

The audio on KCUR has been flat ever since I moved here. It lacks high end when compared to other stations in the area. However when I asked them about it earlier this summer they'd say they'd fix it when they replaced their transmitter later this summer. They also said they'd finally put KWJC on KCUR's HD2 signal, something I think they should have done when KWJC launched.

Even when I lived in KC roughly 20 years ago, KCUR's audio was never very impressive. I'm guessing it sounds that way by design. I also seem to remember that it was the station that had an HD signal that could never lock despite every other HD in the area, including KANU 91.5, would lock on the Johnson County side of the metro. Granted, I was using one of those dongles for the iPhone that I bought on clearance for $10 at Radio Shack, but that was about the only signal anywhere that wouldn't get a lock inside the citygrade signal contour.
