KUKA 105.9 moving to Corpus Christi

In early summer of 2019 I heard a strong signal broadcasting the Country format in Corpus... Think that was the 105.9 K290CK translator as it came in so good during daytime hours. But when I returned in mid summer 2019, it was dead air and KUKA itself was off.

KUKA will be lowering its power. It will be moving closer to Corpus, but it probably won't put a reliable signal into much of the market.

Can they try multiple moves?
It's not getting much closer than the current application, if it is approved. KUKA on 105.9 is a second adjacent from KLHB on 105.5. Both are Class A stations and that class on second adjacent channels need to be at least 19 miles apart. So far far is the proposed new site for KUKA from KLHB in downtown: 23 miles.

Also of concern is KYRK on 106.5 which is a Class C2. The required spacing for a third adjacent Class A to a Class C2 is 34 miles. How far is the proposed KUKA site from the existing KYRK in Ingleside? 34.5 miles.

So 105.9 is not really getting much closer than what is proposed.

There's also 106.1 out of Refugio. I'd have to think, barring a frequency change, it'll be as close to Corpus as it can get. I'm not sure what other frequencies are an option. 106.9 is, but that wouldn't help it much, if at all.

I don't think 106.1 in Refugio has been on air in several years, could be wrong...

I couldn’t tell you, but it doesn’t have to be on to block KUKA from moving closer. The allotment just has to exist, and it does.

Again, I couldn't tell you if it’s on, but it’s presently licensed and owned by Amigo Radio.

Forgot 106.1 was still there.

KXHM in Refugio is a Class A and KUKA is proposing to downgrade to the same. The spacing requirements for two Class As one channel apart is 45 miles. Should this application for KUKA be approve the spacing will be a little over 56 miles. If Regufio was the only consideration, KUKA could move to many towers that are in town (but not all the way to Downtown). The problem for any potential further upgrade is KYRK and secondly KLHB.
