WMEX sold

Fybush's North East Radio Watch (fybush.com)
says Ed Perry has sold WMEX to a duo that includes their Larry Justice, for $390k. They hope
to get an FM translator on air.

Maybe but I wonder if they will have to charge more for airtime. The FM translator could be
important (101.1--would it interfere with their own WBMS translator? CP expires in Dec)

I know why it was so cold this weekend, HELL HAS FROZEN OVER

OK it isn't exactly an "arms length" sale, the buyers are already in the WMEX and/or WATD family

Not huge money as far as sales go, although probably strong for a signal like that, but 3K a month for the AM stick rent and 10K a month for 34 months to pay Ed for the license and whatever else goes along with it... they are 13K a month in fixed costs, plus electrical costs before they can pay themselves dollar one.... and who is selling their advertising?

In theory, the WATD folks were selling all three stations...

My friend Gary Leavitt buys time for his MEX
Sun morning show.
Would studios go somewhere else or would they remain on Enterprise Dr?Either way, new owners (if approved--LMA in effect) have that expense.
Larry does show from Fla. but Jimmy Jay, "Benny Rabbi" etc do shows from Marshfield.

Whatever happened to the two guys who hosted Renegade Radio?? IIRC John and Byran?? Where are they now? And what about that horrible Michele with one L McPhee?? "Sandy" is back on RKO on Saturday nites from 5p-7p. I really wish RKO would give her more time, perhaps put her in the dead air 6a to10a slot!

They were all on the former WMEX that was a (mostly) talk station under previous owners that went out of business and off the air in 2017. None of them have had anything to do with this incarnation of WMEX that (officially) went on the air as an oldies station in May of last year.

I used to listen to them back before MEX went off air in 2017 and IIRC Renegade Radio was doing a podcast of sorts, I'm just wondering where they are now. Are they still doing their podcast??

I heard the music is all over the place and WMEX alone, if you were to seperate it from the other 2.. has never made much money.

The music needs to be more focused, but with radio geeks and music afficinados living in the past, the music will never be more focused.

And how do they expect to pay the bills?

Indeed the Renegade Guys still do a podcast and they use a WMEX-labelled URL (the current station did get wmexboston) and "WMEX app"
and still are doing the shows via podcasts.

IIRC 2014--owners of a station in Laurel MD
LMA WMEX. Later I believe the Renegade guys buy it. In Nov '14 Howie goes independent; WRKO doesn't want the show but WMEX picks it up
(was Howie buying time?)
Mar 2015--RKO PMD ratings suffer.Howie goes
back, still controlling show.

McPhee, Joe Liguiotti and Shack wind up
doing shows.
June of '17--word comes that station will go
dark at end of month as tower lease in
Waltham is expiring. Big bills for owners,
little revenue.Decide to sell.
Dec of 17--Ed Perry buys WMEX
June 30, 2018---WMEX beats a deadline to temp go back on air, //WATD. Almost had license deleted.
Various tests-to-keep-signal-alive.
Nov 2019--return to air, //WATD.
Early 2020--target date of "time change weekend"
to go oldies/local etc. Delayed by pandemic.
By May or June, WMEX as we know it hits air

The official debut of the current daytime format was with Larry Justice on May 18, 2020. There were a few "test" shifts with Larry Justice the previous week, during which you could hear equipment being tweaked. Otherwise it was WATD simulcasting before May 18.

It then still went to WATD simulcasting at night after live WMEX programming ended at 6:00 PM (or briefly 7:00 PM last summer) through approximately 9:15 AM the next weekday until July 13, 2020 when WMEX debuted its nighttime airing of the MeTV Music Channel ('50s to '80s oldies and classic pop hits) overnights until 5:00 AM, when it still joins WATD for the South Shore Morning News program to about 9:15 AM when Larry Justice comes back on with oldies.

I recollect reading somewhere that WMEX was supposed to be paying Howie to carry the show, but weren't following through with that arrangement.

so now that WMEX is a stand alone station, will you stop hating WATD?

I'm sure Joe McMillan has already bugged Larry Justice at least twice by email asking for his old job back.

The screechy badge bunny* appears to be based in CA nowadays, though her Twitter feed remains Boston-centric.
*I think it was someone in here or the radioinfo board who came up with that, but I could be mis-remembering.

I have been known to call her a "badge bunny" although she might have lost her affection for pork after her well publicized DWI arrest (and nobody ever was able to get the outcome of the prosecution, especially the assault on a cop charge)

She is in CA supposedly doing movie work

It seems her marriage was short lived.

She claims she had to spend time in Italy to get away from the allies of the Tsarnev's and Arron Hernandez
that were threatening her morning noon and night.
