87.75 KFLZ

They not only play music in Spanish, they have soccer games apparently.
The website also says they're on 87.9 now, has 87.9 in it's address.

What will happen on 7/13? I guess a move to 102.3, last I heard they were both simulcasting.

If they are actually on 87.9, they are a pirate or at the very least, operating on an unlicensed frequency.

The wording under the station logo on its website indicates that it also has a presence on "92.9 FM - HD3." That's the frequency of KROM, a licensed FM owned by Univision Radio. A pirate hitching a ride on a legitimate station's HD subchannel, or maybe a clue to the fate of 87.75/87.9 after the 13th?

It was broadcasting on 87.9 since September 2019 or so, last I was able to check a month ago it was still there. It was also on 102.3 so after the 13th maybe they have plans to pair 102.3 up with KROM HD3. But I'm surprised Univision let this slide if it was illegal.

Maybe "87.9" is what they're marketing/positioning themselves as, for the benefit of listeners, since car (and most other) radios don't display "87.75." But if that's the case, why not "87.7"? Is the signal broad enough to be just as listenable when you're tuned to 87.9 as it would be at 87.7?

No, a radio won't receive an 87.75 MHz channel 6 TV audio carrier on 87.9 unless it has very bad selectivity. It's on 87.7.

However, there have been a few channel 6 "FrankenFMs" who tried to move their audio carrier up to 87.9 MHz, since there are some car radios which don't go any lower than 87.9 on FM.

Thanks for the clarification. I remember listening to the audio from WTEV (now WLNE), Channel 6, in New Bedford, while growing up in the Boston area, but that was a long time ago, on analog radios that had no dial markings at all below "88." Everywhere I've lived since then has had no Channel 6, so no reason to listen down there.

I know that before August or September of 2019, the same exact radio that picked up 87.9 afterwords used to pick up the same station on 87.75. So they definitely did move the carrier.

As for Univision, I've heard an individual (don't know who) leases KROM HD3 from them, and also leases KFLZ from another owner, B Communications Joint Venture. Univision has nothing to do with B Communications other than the fact that the leasing individual programs the same format on both signals. Last I checked the radio landscape in SA, the same programming was also on K272EK 102.3, that 3rd signal is owned by Alicia Benavides, and I'm guessing 102.3 will be the new home of the format along with KROM HD3 when the TV station goes digital.

This station may have been the 87.9 I received on the E-Skip opening yesterday? I had assumed it was Mexico. I was getting San Antonio area stations.
