Oldies Stay Alive in Norfolk

The local public radio station, WHRO has purchased a high school station that had been broadcasting an oldies format.

WHRO says the oldies station has a dedicated audience.

And now, oldies/radi ogeeks wil lsay.. SEE, HERE.. oldies works. What they fail to admit is all the stations running oldies.. are HD2s/translators, or smaller signals owned by someone else who has other signals and resources. .. and nothing's hurt by putting oldies on the signal..... it flanks a sister station, etc.

Trust me, no ones going oldies and no one will just because its a good format and a money make. Do you realize alot of the music is over 50 years old? lol

In this case, it works for a non-commercial, listener-supported station, as part of an NPR cluster that appeals to older listeners.

As the article states, listeners should expect appeals for funds very soon.

There are here whod say... hey, get rid of that country station, put oldies on it. .we have enough country (in the case of a big market and commercial stations)

WRXS in Milwaukee plays a mix of '50s and '60s songs (thankfully no '70s). They are owned by Saga Communications.
