Lucy 93.3 (KGSR) Signal Update

I first noticed last week that Lucy is back transmitting from its Class C facility near Bertram and not the "construction permit" C2 facility from the tower off of 2222.

Interestingly, that CP expires on August 3rd. I am curious if this is some last minute signal comparisons or if they have permanently gone back to the larger, yet further away, licensed facility.
 
They've been running on their auxiliary facilities at the "new" tower on 2222 at 25,000 watts for a while. Not sure if the reverting back to the old tower in Bertram is so they can complete work at the tower on 2222 in preparation to run full-power at 50,000 watts by August 3rd. Time will tell. I continue to believe that an 80s-90s based Classic Country format will do better on 93.3 that what they're doing now. Imagine it being a country counter-part to Rock/Pop based Bob FM.

It might get better beauty contest numbers, but I'm 46 and would be among the youngest potential listeners of a format like that. You’re not going to make much money off of that. The oldest listeners of a station like that would be roughly 60.

There is a ton of money in 45-54. In a fragmented market, that is likely to be enough to look very very well.

I can appreciate that the classic country format does have appeal, however it is really hard to imagine Waterloo or any other operator in Austin putting that format on a full market signal like 93.3. Also, that format would be such a cultural mismatch with the rest of the cluster.
 
What if they were to bring back hip-hop or dance music on 93.3? Not a very likely idea, but could happen.

Since when are formats within a cluster supposed to match each other? Might want to call up iHeart and let them know that KVET/KASE and KHFI/KPEZ don't match up. Perhaps one, two or all of them need to change formats to "match". Within the Waterloo cluster itself, KLBJ-FM and 102.7 "The Vibe" hardly match up.

I'm not sure if you are intentionally being obtuse or just wanting to argue, but I said "cultural mismatch". That's not even in the same ballpark as formats needing to "match up", which would be silly.

Dance music is definitely not coming back to that station (and i remember listening during the old days of Mega 93-3 and 99-7, Move to it). Urban/Hip Hop also seems highly unlikely with 102.3 occupying most of that space.

I'm not super crazy about Lucy personally, but the cume is pretty good and the number is still going up.

I get what he's saying. Cluster programming and group sales are a real thing. If you look at iHeart, KVET and KASE compliment each other quite well as do KHFI and KPEZ.

The current Waterloo cluster has always had some outliers. I'd heard once that, if you wanted to buy Bob or KLBJ-FM, you had to buy the old KGSR 107.1/93.3, too. I never verified that with that specific cluster, but forced buys have been a common practice for at least the last 30 years in the industry. The current format on 107.1 wouldn't seem to be a good combination with the rest of the cluster, but it's been around for a dozen years now. It's obviously making them money, or it wouldn't still be around.

I could actually see classic country working well with the Austin City Limits Radio format. I just tend to think it would skew too old, and Austin City Limits Radio skews old now, too. While David is correct that you can make some money with the older side of the 25-54 group, I just don't see how you get enough of us, especially with other stations (including KVET) also wanting our ears.

That would explain why the station barely reaches Smithville and completely drops off way before reaching LaGrange.
 
Any updates on this? I was able to pick up Mega HD-3 in Luling today pretty well. I wondered if they ever completed this.
 
I see Radio locator and the FCC site has it back on the regular tower, no CP is listed.
 
Any updates on this? Are they still on their backup site? It has been in HD all this time.
 
The land being developed is the reason KBPA moved into Austin. Not sure why they didn't upgrade 93.3 after all, but it can still be heard in the hill country (Burnet, Marble Falls, etc).
