Buffalo June '21 ratings

I'll leave others to break this down, but your basics:

*WBLK is #1 with a 9.2, but it was down .7 from the May book
*WYRK is right on 'BLK's heels with a 9.1 , gaining nearly a full point.
*Kiss drops a bit and Star gains a bit.
*WBFO, which normally pulls ratings in the 4's, dropped to a 3.6 .
*WLKK(now 107.7/104.7 the Wolf)pulled a .7 . (I'm not sure if it's blowing out all of ALT's audience or something else.)
*97 Rock did a 7.6 .

(As always, these are 12+.)

FTR(and somewhat off topic): Anyone remember last month when Rochester's WDKX didn't have a rating(for whatever reason)? Well, per the Rochester book, they're #2 this time around with a 7.8, gaining .7 from May.

For people who like to see the big picture, here's the link:

I see a big jump for WBUF to a 2 share. 97 Rock continues to grow.

The period covers April thru June, so it doesn't cover the format change at WLKK

WBUF is up, but not a big jump. That 2 share is still below what JACK was getting. Let's see if they can even average a 2 share for 6 months.

WLKK--ALT expires with a 0.7. The Wolf inherits the charred ashes of the Alternative legacy. Even getting back to a 1.5 as Country will be a miracle...

A 42% jump is a big jump. This is a three month trend.
The previous two months show a 1.5 and 1.4.
That's April and May. What happens if July nets a 1.5? Every station moves some from month to month in these new reports. Considering that WBUF has one of the best FM signals, a 2 share isn't that impressive.

WECK has slipped back to 2.6 in this report, while WHTT gained 1 share. WLKK is currently at its lowest level. A format change was needed, but whether The Wolf howls or dies of rabies will be determined...

Cumulus blows out the high profile morning show, turfs the legacy PD and Persons 12+ improves to the highest point in four reports. Kinda funny in a dark way. It's Persons 12+, so all this is anecdotal. But still...

I hope the "dark" comment was unintentional given station you are talking about.

WBUF has had no impact with their Classic Rock attempt. The 97 Rock audience is locked into vacancy. As long as "Free Bird" is served up twice a day, they are content. Maybe the Nielsen diary system is flawed. People just write down what they USED to listen to 20 years ago...

Not true. They have impact with the people who listen. You don't have to win to have an impact. The goal is not to have impact, but to make money. Every station has some impact, as we've seen with the comments from former listeners to Alt107.7.

BTW, would this constitute the "Spring Book?" (Or is that Spring Brook? Ahem.)

Like the signpost up ahead -- The Twilight Zone. The Morning Show and the former PD have been quickly forgotten. It's like they never existed...
You've repeatedly castigated the few listeners who posted on social media defending the bit that bought them the farm. Now you're saying the multitude of listeners who continue to listen to the station have forgotten "the Morning Show and the former PD." Maybe it's simpler than that. Perhaps most listeners understand what happened and why. Whether they like it or not, they recognize that a major mistake was made and consequences ensued. It's possible that some people who were tuning over to Jack no longer have that option and are staying with 97-Rock a little longer or a little more often. The landscape has changed and 97-Rock is bigger than any one show. They survived the loss of Norton & Co., and they appear to be working through the loss of Bull, Rob, & Chris. WBUF's switch to classic rock hasn't made the impact Townsquare hoped for - at least so far. Listeners don't generally change habits as quickly as radio geeks expect. We'll see where things go from here.

There were more than a "few" who defended the offensive remarks. They also said they would never listen to the station again. That was just bluster.

The Ratings haven't changed much since the incident and slightly went up this report. If 97 Rock listeners are seeking something different, they wouldn't go to WBUF. You are correct that listening habits are entrenched. Even more so in a city like Buffalo which doesn't have significant population growth or churn...
