ESPN Sunday Night Baseball on ABC?

Right now ABC is broadcasting Sunday Night Baseball, which is usually seen on its sister ESPN, showing a Cubs/White Sox matchup. I found this ABC to Exclusively Televise ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball for First Time on August 8 - ESPN Press Room U.S. press release for this event, and it's got me wondering: Why this game, especially one airing right against the Olympics? Are any other games scheduled for broadcast airing, and is there any chance ESPN Sunday Night Baseball on ABC becomes a regular thing?

Because ESPN is airing the Pro Football Hall of Fame Induction and ESPN2 has the NBA Summer League. I think this is a one-time thing.

Compete against Fox Sports could be a factor here if the Olympics was not a factor here. I know Fox Sports airs MLB baseball too and is the one that primarily airs them for the Fox Affiliates.

And the Olympics broadcast tonight is the replay of the closing ceremonies, which doesn't seem like it would be huge competition.

MLB on ESPN is exclusive. No other baseball is being played. What on Fox Sports 1 and 2 would come even close to competing? The old RSNs are gone to Sinclair (Bally), and they're not airing baseball right now.

Besides, there is little or no interest in a Sox/Cubs series, other than in the Midwest and with ex-Chicago transplants (like me). Same goes for Yankees/Mets, Angels/Dodgers, A's/Giants, and Orioles/Nationals games outside their home markets. Those are all strictly local rivalries.

I think normal programming for ABC on Sunday Night are a bunch of game shows. So this isn't a big shock.

They can use it to market ESPN+ and other services.

More people get ABC then ESPN and maybe way to get World Series on a channel other then Fox but then CBS would want to join the rotation and yes its not part of TBS new deal but should be.
