107.9 bidders ID'd for auction 106

They failed going after KNCI the first time. Country listeners pick a station and don’t move.
You had to realized back then there were 3 country music stations with full Class B signal in the market at that time. 105.1 KNCI, 101.9 THE WOLF (yes back then they were #2 and had local dj's, not like the current 103.5 situation), and 92.5 The Bull in which was the 3rd rated country in the market. Things are different today ever since 101.9 THE WOLF change format.

Y
correct, as has been stated.. 103.5 is running westwood ones real country satellite feed

You’re right …the Country share in the market is lower than it was three years ago.

I’ve learned in my 57 years to not be absolute. Anything can happen

I couldn’t access the link but younger skewing certainly makes sense to better balance out the cluster. Hot Country or Top 40 fit the younger women demo. Maybe a KISS-FM?? Lots of iHM stations use that branding.

Why do I get the feeling that whatever the format chosen is, it will likely skew female and much younger than almost all of the posters who've made a guess so far? Isn't that the way it usually goes when a full-market FM signal is in play?

Since the Sacramento iHeartMedia cluster skews older (KYRV, KHYL, KBEB, KFBK, KSTE), it might not be as wild of a guess.

Something younger does make sense, but it's also difficult to package a younger format with other stations in that cluster. V101 might be the closest so it poses the question: How well does V101 do 18-49?

Would they try CHR?

As of now, it remains to be seen whether KUDL (The End) will bounce back for the July 2021 books. But I do feel iHeartMedia wants a younger-leaning format to balance the cluster which skews older. The question is what approach will they take (should they attempt CHR) to both attract Sacramento listeners and to distinguish themselves from The End (and, to an extent, KZZO/100.5 NOW).

CHR as a genre has been in a deep creative slump for quite a while now. Any station that launches with CHR now will have to be patient and accept that formats such as hot AC or country will eat its lunch for the immediate future.

Agree completely. Country, AC, and Rock tend to do the best in Sacramento. KFBK is usually right there also. CHR just isn’t strong right now and already has established stations in the market covering that demo.

FM Sports is a lucrative demo but our market is arguably too small to justify in addition to the AM sports options.

Triple A is niche and would be competing for a sliver of KKDO/KSEG audience.
