WGGG Gainesville

Anyone know what is going on with WGGG? They have been off the air since at least September when they filed for sale with the FCC. The sale was approved in late January but they are still off the air. I assume WMOP is off as well but haven't been to Ocala lately.

From RadioInsight:
"Hitmaker Music Group is expanding its holdings in Gainesville FL with the purchase of Hot Talk “Florida Man Radio” 104.9 WYGC High Springs from JVC Media for $350,000. Anthony Bucher’s company previously acquired 1230 WGGG/92.1 W221DX Gainesville and 900 WMOP Ocala in September 2020 for $260,000."

Not sure if the first two this company bought have ever come back... They may need some help or something...

WGGG and WMOP are back on the air this week. It sounds like they are testing with music and occasional IDs. 104.9 has never been a ratings winner in Gainesville due to their tower location in High Springs. I doubt they can move it any closer.

This may clear things up a little - as reported in Radio Insight:

Anthony Bucher’s Hitmaker Music Group has failed to close on its $350,000 purchase of 104.9 WYGC High Springs/Gainesville FL from JVC Media. WYGC has begun simulcasting JVC’s Country “US 102.3” WXUS Dunnellon/Ocala.

I listened yesterday afternoon (12/27) and they are all Christmas music. The WGGG signal is very weak and the 92.1 translator is better but has some issues. You would think they would have the technical stuff worked out by now. They still identify with WYGC but don't think they are on 104.9 anymore.

Jeff2 as you probably know WGGG transmitter is nearly six miles NW of downtown. In the east (like Hawthorne or Interlachen) WGGG is probably normally getting weak. The translator is 99 watts at 194 feet AGL, it is what it is. How does the audio sound?
As I recall, from the Waldo Road site Trenton was pretty much the end of WGGG coverage for a fan of the station in a car with a good radio. From that site at night, it started falling apart at 13th street.

I was driving west on University Avenue near the University and when you went by a building the AM signal would almost disappear. The translator broke up around 34th but seemed to be temporary. I checked yesterday and the Christmas music is more modern at least.

12/29 and it is still all Christmas music. I'm assuming WMOP is off the air as I can usually pick them up in Gainesville.

1/15/22 and Christmas music

Tagging onto my own post what is with 690 in Jacksonville? I don't get a signal and they usually sound like a local station in Gainesville.

When I drove through the area in 2018, WGGG/WMOP were operating out of a little square building in Ocala, a ways off the road, back behind a multi-business building (I believe it had businesses like auto shop, Air conditioning company, etc in it). There was a little sign propped up against the building in the dirt that identified it as Sports Radio... The FM translator for WMOP had been repossessed by the owner so it was just WMOP-AM operating in Ocala with the simulcast. WMOP was louder in Gainesville than WGGG. WGGG was not modulating much at all so the signal was very soft.

1/26/22 and still Christmas music

At least 690 seems to be back to full power
I was about halfway between Bushnell and Summerville, this past Monday (01/24/2022) and also can confirm that 690 is back. (about 10 days ago, it was M.I.A. from this same location). Also was receiving 930 and 600 out of Jacksonville. (Forgot to check 1320). 900 out of Ocala appears to continue to be off-the-air or at the very least on an extremely reduced power; although I believe it’s off the air; used to put in a decent signal into the Jumper Creek area of Bushnell and points north.
