KWXY Sale Gone Through?

I noticed on the KWXY (Palm Springs) website that it is the same, but it is now copyrighted by IVOX Media, the company that bought Desert Broadcasters.

I wonder what changes are going to come about.....?

Is there anyone on here in the Coachella Valley to check whether KWXY is still broadcasting over the air on AM or FM?

The stream has been silent for days and the website has been down since at least Saturday.

I'm in La Quinta and behind two hills and can't get the AM, and even less the FM. When i go out tomorrow, I will check.

Part of the sale involves a transmitter site change. The previous owner did a terrific deal for the land.

The KWXY website has been down for a couple of weeks. I get a "Not Authorized to View This Page [CFN #0004]" when trying to access it.

The stream was still there via TuneIn three or four days ago, but was silent when checked just now.

We are getting pretty off topic for the LA board, but do any of the Edom Hill FMs have any signal in La Quinta?
Yes, all the full power ones do... and very strong signals at that. It's line of sight to most of La Quinta, although there is shadowing or some blockage in the far southern areas of LQ.

It is less than 18 miles from Edom Hill to city hall in LQ. Or about the distance of the KROQ transmitter from MacArthur Park in LA. The whole Palm Springs radio metro is about 35 miles long and no more than 10 wide at the most (Whitewater to Coachella)

That is, however, too far for a Palm Springs area translator to cover.

I actually sent in a comment asking what was going on with the website and their lack of streaming.

920 and 1340 have been off the air for several days. No carrier. I drive by the building on Dinah Shore in Cathedral City daily and only occasionally see a vehicle parked there.

I spot checked these stations for the couple of years they were operating. I can say that I never heard a single local advertiser. If they had any kind of sales effort, it was all but invisible.

There were no adds on KWXY under Garry's ownership in the past year. Not sure about KKGX.

Truthfully, it must be hard to make money in such a small market with so many signals.

Thanks Nick for the update. Sounds like they're gone. And I always wondered about KWXY and the absence of commercials. Guess Garry was just footing the bill for running the place as a labor of love. Unless KKGX brought in enough revenue to cover both. I never listened to KKGX.

The company that acquired those two stations is based in North Texas, not too far from me. I remember looking them up when the sale was first filed and I just pulled it up again. I am still confused about what they actually do or what they are aiming for and why they bought a couple of AMs in the CV.

"IVOX MEDIA is an independent media content company that owns & operates a diverse communications environment.

TV . Radio . News . Film . Multimedia . Production"

That’s true. They may have tried and found the effort futile.
You would think that Palm Springs would be the best market to air infomercials for colon blow and prostate revitalization alchemy at least for part of the time.

Seriously, IVOX seems to have inherited two white elephants and paid dearly for them. Someone is going to want their money back.

While their business marketing plans seem overly broad to say the least, IVOX got two AMs and two FM translators for around 100k. Doesn't seem exorbitant to me.

For comparison, 1010 and 1200 (and related translators) have been being shopped around for a while, publicly, for 700k for the pair (375k for just 1010). It might be telling their haven't been any takers for that price yet though.

Are they changing formats?
Depends on whom you ask. If you ask KWXY listeners, at least on the KWXY Facebook fans page, no format change is forthcoming. I follow the page there and someone did supposedly contact IVOX about a week ago regarding the station being silent. According to him, IVOX said they were working on antenna upgrades of some sort and that, although they couldn't guarantee there wasn't a format change in the works, IVOX had no plans at this time to change KWXY's programming. Of course, if you ask all those people here on this forum and elsewhere who loathe any type of B/EZ formats, you'll probably hear that KWXY's adult standards format is toast. Me...I'm an avid fan of the adult standards, beautiful music, easy listening formats, but at the same time, I try to look at the situation objectively. Granted, I'd hate to see the station fall by the wayside, but KWXY has been off the air now continuously for two weeks time. The KWXY website is down and the phone number has been disconnected at the station. Doesn't look promising, unfortunately...
