WDBO Changes

WDBO picks up Jacksonville/WOKV's Mark Kaye show from 1-3pm, bumping the Dana Show. Hard to tell if other changes are in effect, the web page hasn't been updated for months (still has the now departed Clark Howard in the evenings).

I can't even listen to the overproduced mess WDBO calls news these days. The imaging and constant anchor rotation between (and even during) stories is just so overboard. It's become total tabloid news and it's a terrible product for anyone actually looking to hear a quick newscast. They spend so much time bragging about how they are such a great source for news, weather, and traffic that they wind up shorting us on those things to make it sound flashy.

I concur; what's makes this even worse, IMO, is that at one time WDBO 580 was such a leader in news, music and weather; now they (like many other radio stations) spend an inordinate amount of time self congratulating themselves and very little time in their actual format. WDBO train wreck on so many levels, but they have plenty of company in the Tampa and Miami/Broward markets.

If you listen to WOKY Jacksonville, it's a mirror image of WDBO Orlando practically just change call letters. Even have nearly the same commercial sets.

I'm pretty sure WDBO spends more airtime an hour patting themselves on the back and repeating their own call letters than actually reporting the news.

Cuts At Cox Media Stations 9-24-21
Cox Media has announced cuts at WDBO-AM 580. "Orlando's Evening News" host Tony Marino was let go after 8 years. Darrell Moody, who was a reporter on “Orlando’s Morning News”, was also a victim of the cuts. According to Inside Radio, Joe Kelley, WDBO News Director, will take the position on “Orlando’s Evening News” with Kevin Rafuse. In the same report they stated “Orlando’s News at Noon” will be eliminated. Again, according to Inside Radio "Two Orlando Directors of Branding and Programming are also said to be out: Hildi Brooks at classic hits WMMO and Dawn Campbell at adult R&B “Star 94.5” WCFB". Also being cut is Matt "Holiday" Beyer, Music Director Afternoons at WPYO-FM 95.3.

Scott Anez is now doing the 4 hour morning news show. Joe Kelley shifts to evenings and only one hour on air. Tony Marino was easily the easiest to listen to as far as the three news hosts.
