The station's roots were actually as KTUN, a satellite fed Adult Contemporary station in the 1980s. The flip to KGOL in 1986 was supposed to replace religious formatted KGOL 107.5, which flipped to Classic Rock KZFX after a sale and signal upgrade. The 1180 facility went through several signal upgrades after that. The day signal does more or less okay, but the night signal is pretty useless over most of the market. At my Cy-Fair location I have an easier time hearing the Radio Rebelde synchronized 1180 transmitters in Cuba.
So no more LA SUAVECITA, I wonder if someone will pick up El Genio Lucas. Maybe Univision will try to get him back on Amor?
And Piolin maybe would go to LA CALIENTE 🔥.
Does La Caliente still air Erazno y la Chokolata? I know they had stopped most of the show and was only on air for an hour since La Caliente hired Emilio El Guey.

Not in a month of Sundays.
Whoever pays either cash or barter will get any syndicated show.
Translators are not the favorite option for syndicators as they have such limited coverage and are hard to monetize.
KGOL still running the Suavecita format as of Saturday morning.
The land containing the KGOL transmitter facility is at a major intersection on the Grand Parkway that is about to be overtaken by urban sprawl. I suspect this will become one of those "the land is worth more than the station" situations. Wonder if Rehan Siddiqi might try moving the transmitter where it could better reach the South Asian community?

That is one of those silly radio-locator things where there are two outer contours that represent areas where not a single listener is found in the ratings.
The real usable AM coverage on those maps is slightly and approximately inside the innermost contour. I've seen a major company use that kind of maps to judge a purchase. In fact, in one case against my argument, a $60 million dollar purchase was made for a station that did not truly reach any of the desired audience because maps like those "looked good"

I ran kgol for some time many years ago and we would have calls of truck drivers tuned to the station in the outskirts of Austin .
I do wonder if the KGOL ground system needs some tlc or if they have been operating at reduced power. The signal seems to underperform even the innermost signal line on that map substantially in my recent real world listening experiences from both west and east of Houston.
I'm curious, where did this flyer come from?
It looks like one of those ads you would see in a trade magazine placed by a broker, but even though it is congratulating the buyer it seems to really be an ad for the buyer, promoting himself.
Maybe I'm too midwestern in spirit, but that seems pretty self-promotional.
Regardless, this has been a very underutilized asset for a long time and I am glad to hear it will get a local owner and hopefully some more love and care.
It will be very telling if that plot of land in Porter is part of the deal and if so what the numbers are. Nothing has been filed yet, but I am eager to see what the deal looks like.
I wonder if KLAT might be the next station with that kind of situation. Univision seems totally uninterested in AM and the station has an expansive two site system for day and night with a total of 12 towers between the locations. The night site near 290 is probably especially worth a sizable sum.
