College Football Wins TV Ratings

No surprise to me. Live sports (and not those 'made for TV' pieces of junk) are the only things left worthwhile.

Nor to me, although I don't share your view that all concerts are " 'made for TV' pieces of junk." Fox promoted the game heavily, and it had the built-in advantage of being the only network sports telecast on Thursday night, a heavy night for television viewing. Add in the fact that the red-state, red-neck opponents of the "wokeness" of other sports (MLB, NBA, NFL) generally give NCAA football the same pass they give NASCAR and you have all the ingredients for big numbers.

Couldn't ABC had done better with the CMA concert if it had put it on a normal Thursday night? Although country music's appeal has long expanded far beyond the South and rural Midwest, it is still strong in those areas, which also are the strongest areas for college football.

My 'junk' comment was directed at the sports genre and not musical concerts.

Not surprising to me, either. I've missed football so much that I watched 2 college games on Saturday - One of them I didn't even care much about, it was just nice to see a game again as the season kicks off. Had a nice pumpkin ale during the game, too..Between the pumpkin ale and the footy, it felt like fall is nearly officially upon us!

They normally run this show in August, but this time. they wanted it in September.

In 2019, the special aired on a Sunday night and still lost to Big Brother.

But they got a million more viewers.

Pretty funny watching ESPN's College Game Day from Soldier Field in Chicago. The game was a noon start, broadcast by Fox. ESPN moved their game picks down to the field at 11:40. As they do their picks, the bands and teams are coming on the field for the start of the game. The ESPN picks go 5 minutes long, so they're still on the air and on the field as the Fox broadcast begins at noon. Two TV crews on the field as the teams take the field. Makes me wonder if ESPN ran long on purpose to interfere with the Fox broadcast. Not something that happens every week. Usually the ESPN show takes place at a site where the game has a later start. Also unusual was that their celebrity picker, Danica Patrick, is from Wisconsin, so we expect she'll pick Wisconsin. But instead she picks Notre Dame. Makes me wonder why they went with her.
