WLTJ-FM

WLTJ-FM's ratings are just plain out suffering. They don't even come in the top 10 (for July). What's everyone's idea or fix?

Steel City media isn't a big company with lots of overhead. WRRK, WLTK, and the City Paper all bill rather nicely and are profitable. Money is not always tied ratings. Just ask Bob Stevens over at BCI in North Versailles.

Ah, WRRK... What other station can you hear The Raspberries after Talking Heads after Dua Lipa?! I'm surprised they do so well in the ratings but personally like the format.

When I was in Eastern PA the other week I was listening to Philly's "Playing Anything We Feel Like" 95.7 Ben FM. Compared to Bob it just sounded like a classic rock station.

Between DVE and 3WS there's no need for anything classic-rock related. There are already too many country stations.

Ratings-wise there might be hole for something Urban but the format never made money here, hence WAMO's saga. They made more money first selling 105.9 to Clear Channel, then 106.7 to WAOB than they ever made running the station. (Actually the perfect signal for Urban in this market is 98.3 but no one will ever get it away from EMF).

Maybe a well run commercial AAA format might have a shot (WYEP almost beats LTJ sometimes and they aren't all that good), but as was stated above, LTJ is kinda like the Pirates, they can finish last and still be profitable.

They are definitely top 10 in all the 18-54 women age groups, from 18-25 to 25-54 and 35-44. The owner gets about 12% of total market revenue and I'll betcha' that they do well with that.

There is nothing to "fix".

I'm guessing a commercial AAA would have a tighter playlist and stick to the core format more?

I find some times/days I like the song selection on YEP and other times not. I like the times when they play indie and modern and classic alternative, with the occasional more "pop" song mixed in. I don't like when they stray too far off into some formats, like folk or rap. But everyone has their own preference!

Seems like WYEP may be spreading themselves too thin, but I guess they're alright as long as they keep getting enough donations. Certainly better than a religious satellator being there!
