WBZ This Morning

Surprised channel 4 is keeping this label for their morning news given CBS shifted to CBS Mornings. You’d think they would switch to WBZ Mornings given they are an O&O.

That doesn't mean they have to follow it. All ABC O&O's don't follow the Good Morning (city name) formula and not every NBC affiliate follows the Today formula, see WESH Daytona Beach (WESH 2 News Sunrise) as an example.

WJAR also uses the word "Sunrise" in its morning news branding. Although it's a bit of a misnomer in the winter months because the program ends at 7 AM, sometimes before sunrise.

Well, there you go. That's my point. Also, if you look around New England, WWLP doesn't have a branding, WCSH/WLBZ use The Morning Report instead and, despite being an Independent now, WHDH still uses Today under Today in New England which is just like sister station WSVN who is FOX but uses Today in Florida.

Its the choice of the local station to decide if they want to or not follow the naming mandate of the national morning programs for its local morning newscast.

Another notable news rebranding occurred when WFXT Channel 25 who was owned by Fox was known as Fox 25 News. When Cox took ownership it was changed to Boston 25 News even though Channel 25 is stilled affiliated with Fox. The quality of the newscast has since diminished and recently more changes are being made. I think Fox should end its affiliation with Channel 25 and move to Channel 7 which is independent. Considering Channel 7s Miami sister station WSVN is also Fox, it would be a good move here in Boston also.

Again, my point is when you are an owned and operated station why would you wanted to go with a title that the network has dropped.

WCBS uses "CBS 2 News This Morning".
KYW uses "Eyewitness News".
WJZ uses "WJZ News", a mirror of the branding WBZ uses outside of morning broadcasts.

Local news stations can use whatever branding they want.
