Massive layoffs at WFXT; several newscasts cancelled

As soon as Cox came in and tried to start fixing what wasn’t broken, I stopped watching. Say what you will about Fox, but the local newscasts for their owned and operated stations were polished and professional. When Cox came in, it started to feel small market. Maria Stephanos knew this and got out.

Also, there isn‘t a need for five stations to produce local newscasts in Boston. A shrinking pie is split five ways and eventually someone is going to throw in the towel.

The Fox network renewed its network affiliation with WFXT (and other Fox affiliates that Cox Media Group owns) in February 2020. From a financial standpoint, this can't be good for WFXT, assuming they have to pay Fox periodically to be affiliated with the Fox network.

Let's face it. Boston 25 is gonna get rid of their Sunday evening newscasts next. They'll concentrate on the mornings and weekday evenings. I'm surprised that Fox Network hasn't got a national newscast on its network.

Fox made a big mistake renewing its affiliation with WFXT. This would have been a good time for Fox to have its affiliation with WHDH Channel 7. With their increased emphasis on news, having Fox would add to it just like its sister station in Miami WSVN which is also Fox.

Fox 25 isn't what it was: a viable news source. WCVB has it locked on with awards and the talent Fox 25 lost.

Just like the WLVI of days old, WFXT news will be gone and replaced with reruns or more junk news called TMZ.

Time will tell..... Sarah and Maria were smart. Shiri Spear should jump ship to Fox 7 news. TOO SOON?!

Update turns out the cuts at Cox owned WFXT is also happening at other places as Cox is in talks to get Tegna.
