KLTR 94.1 is coming

Assuming “upgrading” to Devers/Winnie is even possible and I am not so sure it is, I imagine they would not keep a Golden Triangle targeted CHR as the format.

Much less keep a CHR format.

KQXY is a C1 but not fully used...its 100kw at 180mtrs...C1s can do 100kw at 300mtrs...doubt it can go full C, maybe C0 but there could be IF spacing issues and 94.5 is only 2 channels off in Houston and Lafayette.

Both KTBZ and KSMB are spaced far enough to fit KQXY in Devers. I'm looking around and maybe I am missing something. But so far I only see KLTR as the only obstacle. My understanding is that translators and LPFMs would have to move out of the way for a full powered station.

I doubt Cumulus will spend money to upgrade it into a rimshot for Houston.

Well, how much is there to spend? There are three towers in the Devers area already built that they could lease space from.

The ROI wouldn't be there and it would compete with KRBE, Cumulus' real money maker..

KQXY does come in strong during tropos. I wonder if KLTR’s CP doesn’t get built and expire if they would just upgrade it. I have also gotten KAFR pretty strong next to the KQXY tower during tropos also.

Cumulus had TWO 2000FT rimshots, 97 5 and 103 7...we know what happened to them....103.7 was built at a cost over 32million...sold for 5 million...real great ROI..97.5 wasn't as bad...since they already owned it..but it was a money loser...

They wouldn't be building from scratch again (or building at all of they trade a KQXY CP and KRBE in order to acquire other properties in other markets).

That’s what I meant. 104.1 and 94.1 could simulcast KRBE. Then Cumulus could save on the staff needed for KQXY.

Also - iHeart should probably be expected to do the same thing for KLVI in Beaumont. When the studios are torn down with the construction of I-10 they could just simulcast KTRH (or maybe 790 for sports) and gain some additional coverage.

Stan: Why would iHeart need to raze their studios? They and Ch 6's building are only separated by a few feet and as you know they just remodeled their facilities a few years ago. Will they have to be torn down also? I haven't seen any of TxDOT's plans.

The I-10 curve gets flattened out for normal highway speed and safety. Also, there are more lanes and access road widening with sidewalks. The property acquisition is quite extensive and not only are Sinclair and iHeart impacted but also the Acura dealership is already moving to Eastex freeway next to the Home Depot in advance of their current building being demolished.

I can confirm KLTR is still broadcasting their weak signal without RDS.

Currently KLTR can be listened to about 12 miles away and with no static 5 miles away. On the radio locator maps the purple is about as far as you can hear it. KQLC seems to have a better signal but they could be overpowered.

Seems about right. Last time I listened to KLTR, the station started to fade out quick once you left Hempstead and was gone once you left Prairie View. In my experience, the Houston translator really does a number on KLTR out there in Waller County.

Who knows? When I commented on KLTR, there was activity at the site to start building it out. Then nothing. Maybe a buyer backed out. Maybe engineering determined the tower won't support additional weight. Maybe money ran out. Who knows? The current signal is far weaker than licensed. Just like KTWL. Lowering transmitter power is a lot like turning down the thermostat on a dozen space heaters. Good way to save money..
