WMEX Countdown show

I've noticed that WMEX recently started their own countdown show where they would count down the top songs of a specific week in a specific year. I'm not sure how long they've done this. But I noticed on Sunday they were doing it at 5pm and that's not the time that's listed on the schedule. It said it was usually on Saturday from 9am to 11am. But this one was from the 60s, before Casey Kasem. I wonder if that's what they're trying to compete with. Though I think WMEX DID carry American Top 40 for a period of time in the 70s.

I don’t think they’re trying to compete with anything. The show, produced and hosted by Jeff Lawrence, is using actual WMEX music surveys from the past for the songs listed and played. WMEX began its Top 40 format in 1957, with its own weekly music surveys, many years before Kasem began his syndicated “American Top 40” program (which was also aired on WMEX in the early-mid ‘70s).
All Top 40 stations had their own weekly or monthly music surveys long before Kasem, even before rock and roll music began in the mid-‘50s, there were pop music stations with music surveys probably going as far back as the 1930’s.
Jeff’s WMEX countdown show began a few months ago on Saturday mornings 9-11 AM. It got good response, so they soon began rebroadcasting it Sunday mornings at the same time, and also recently added rebroadcasts Saturdays and Sundays 5-7 PM. Those afternoon rebroadcasts are not yet updated on their website.
Also not yet on their website is their new weekday morning show started about a month ago with former WODS and WROR DJ Paul Perry on 7-10 AM. Larry Justice now begins at 10 AM.

They have WATD morning news til 7, then Paul Perry and then the pride of Estero Florida Larry Justice.

I wonder if MacMillan begged Justice for his job back, after the very unprofessional split under E.P.

I was actually listening to the WMEX stream with Paul Perry the other morning and it wasn't a bad product.
