Question about KFMR Virden, NM

Is 97.3 KFMR owned by Ted Tucker? I heard it while driving in the Duncan area of eastern AZ and noticed a similarity to KCDX in Florence. No commercials, only announcement was legal ID at top of the hour. The music was different; a mixture of Sinatra-style standards and some newer soft pop.

I know that Mr. Tucker owned a "KFMR" when it was on 95.1 in Phoenix and was a KCDX repeater (around 2005 or so IIRC). Just wondering if the NM station is another one of his properties.

I posted it here because the station is in Virden NM. Because the signal reaches some of eastern AZ I understand your question.
I just edited the post for clarity.

KFMR is currently licensed to Virden in SW New Mexico but will soon be moving to Central Heights-Midl AZ near Globe. However there is a CP for another Virden licensed station, KFMM at 99.1. Both stations are owned by Cochise Media which owns a few rural stations in western NM as well as a non-commercial license in Las Vegas, NM. KCDX is owned by Desert West Air Ranchers Corporation. Interestingly the CP to move KFMR appears to take over the current coverage of KCDX which is moving closer to Tucson. KFMR-FM Radio Station Coverage Map Perhaps there is some connection.

OK it appears the answer is yes. I looked up info on Cochise Media and found this: Ted Tucker’s Big Hit: ‘Good Music’ For Cochise | Radio & Television Business Report Apparently the Tuckers are half owners of Desert West Air along with another company called Skywest Media.

Interesting. I didn't know stations could be moved state-to-state.

Anyone know if KFMM will be taking over the format as well? Also, when KFMR moves they might have to find another frequency due to The Rattler 97.3 being in the east valley. (NOTE: 97.3 used to be assigned to Globe)

Sad to see KCDX move. Ted Tucker once had something on the web about a KRDX coming to 98.5 in Tucson, but I don't think it ever came to fruition. Probably issues with Hot 98.3 or the 98.7 LP out of Pueblo Magnet High School.

97.3 is a translator.. a full power signal can bump a translator and an LPFM.. meaning if there would be interference, the translator or lpfm have to move frequencies .. or if none are available, sign off.

Stations change cities of license across state lines fairly often. Radio licensing is handled at the federal level. So, that's not an issue in and of itself.

I doubt any such decisions have been made yet. Of course, Cochise doesn't seem that interested in making money off of operating its properties. So, it's certainly possible.

As SRG mentions, The Rattler is on a translator, which means it, not KFMR, will have to find another frequency. Sometimes, move-in operators, however, will help those translators find new frequencies.

I thought I'd heard KRDX had already moved into Tucson, but it moved to 103.7 when it relocated. It's also a pretty extreme rimshot. It's not as extreme of a rimshot as KAVV or as what KKYZ will be if it ever moves into metro Tucson, but it doesn't cover much of the market.

Thing is, KAVV isnt pretending to be a rimshot.. its serving its communities where its actually located

It would take quite an Ouija board to map out the various broadcast property moves that Tucker and associates have made over the last 15 years or so.
