Newsy preps for OTA launch

Newsy is announcing programming and other details about its relaunch on October 1: Newsy Preps For Over-The-Air Launch With New Programming Lineup, News Teams

Although it will be available OTA (primarily on Scripps owned stations) there is no specific channel info available yet. The "channel finder" link on the Newsy website directs to streaming options. I have wondered if Scripps might shutter Ion Television and place Newsy in its place, or perhaps swap out an existing subchannel, or add an additional subchannel.

The thought intrigues, me, but I doubt it. Ion still polls very well in 2021 (I don't know how, because the programming is to a very tight audience that likes police procedurals), and I don't see it going away for all news and opinion. However, I could see Newsy becoming a subchannel in many markets.

Check out these sources:

Rabbitears has published a list of upcoming Newsy affiliates

In most markets its being added as a .7 subchannel. The odd thing is most of the top 20 markets are missing, maybe this is only a partial list.

Yes KC is Missing and KSHB/KMCI/KPXE Scripps, the others in KC area are owned by Hearst,WDAF Nexstar,KCTV5/KSMOTV Gray in the future and all others Lower Power and now way KCPT but St. Louis is their so is Topeka,Springfield,MO. Hubbard has added it.

Yeah its a partial list as I'm still waiting for Miami. Seeing the trend here, I'm afraid it will be on WPXM 35.7, though I hope it will actually be on WSFL 39.6 so that it evens it out between the two stations so that WPXM can have six and WSFL too can have six.

I have a feeling that Newsy will replace HSN on KPXN 30.6 in Los Angeles, seeing as how KPXN is an Ion O&O and we already have HSN on KCAL 9.4. I guess weʼll find out soon!

Here in Houston a promo loop for Newsy just popped up on O&O KPXB 49.7, promoting an October 4th launch. Other O&O markets might want to check if a .7 has appeared.

My local O&O ION station has just added the .7 as Newsy with the October 4th promo. It also looks like most major markets have now been added to the Rabbitears list of affiliates.

The LAST thing this nation needs is another damn "news" channel. My town is already saturated with "news" shows hour upon hour throughout the day. The majority are not worth a s...! Just another reason to present well worn commercials. I you depend upon your TV for news you are terribly ignorant.

Why did they completely abandon Newsy on cable? You'd think you'd try to get the most viewers by having it on many platforms..

They're not...the channel is still continuing via streaming and cable. These new OTA affiliations are just extending the reach of Newsy.

Actually... not on cable. At least, not yet. Newsy will start off with OTA and streaming for now, not cable or MVPDs like YouTube TV. They may get to it eventually but not at launch.

Newsy wanted to start the distribution process all over again and thus, is what's happening.

It will get back on Cable if your provider adds it.

Yes but under the same rules as the other digital subchannels, unlike before.
