Beasley syndicating T&R

In a press release Beasley is announcing they
will syndicate their Toucher and Rich morning show which originates at 98.5 the Sports Hub, as of Oct 25.No affiliates named yet.

Imagine running a syndicated sports show in morning drive. If that happened in Boston, what would you say?

Actually it IS happening in Boston. We'll see how this affects the show's content.

The company that's syndicating them is a new company called Sound Mind, run by a former president of iHeart.

Will it still be a sports show or "guy" radio ?

I always thought Howie turned lousy after he was syndicated.
Stifling too much local talk, which was his strength.

If T & R do the same they could lose some listeners.

Like WEEI's network, Toucher & Rich is only being offered to stations in New England. WBZ-FM is not going to mess with where their bread is buttered to make their flagship show more palpable to affiliates in Tuscaloosa.

There will be a dropping of the local slant, as much as possible. But would they go the ESPN Radio route, where they are fully sports focused, cutting out the other topics they discuss? Or, will they be more like Don Imus was on WFAN, with a blend of content? I think they can be successful with a syndicated show formatted as the latter. All depends on who will be the affiliates.

Just saw that it's regional. Local slant will remain, making my previous post moot.

I think this move is probably a good one. Am anxious to see if any worthwhile station carries the show in markets outside Boston where WEEI's programming is already available.

I'm anxious to see if the integration with local breaks goes smoother than it has with Audacy or Howie Carr.

Once again they're attempting to squeeze a square peg into a round hole, so there are usually some hiccups.

Don't know what stations they could get on--there are some sports stations that run the WEEI network; some may have ESPN or Fox Sports and perhaps some who already have a local morning show.

The other night as I was driving on the North Shore I was picking up Red Sox network game coverage on a 960.Not totally sure who but recently in the Burlington-Plattsburgh market The Game 101.3 flipped from sports to country and the sports went to WEAV 960 (Plattsbugh NY) and a couple FM translators (92.1 Colchester VT, 105.9 Plattsburgh NY). So there's a New England sports station (also reaching part of thd Empire State). Currently they air Fox Sports "Two Pros and a Cup of Joe" AM drive

Portland ME has The Big Jab on 1490, 92.5 and 96.3. They already have an AMD show, The Morning Jab
Providence's WPRV 790 has talk and business... And a apparently local morning show, Morning Blend. [Ramsey, Levin, Bongino etc other shows]

And yet, my mind is thinking of CT and RI, specifically competing with WVEI.

97.9 WUCS lic to Windsor Locks CT runs ESPN;
That's a possible home for the show.
Talkers WPRO and WHJJ already have local morning shows (latter has regional Jim Polito)

As for Red Sox play by play Portland has it on WPEI 95.9, WJJB 96.3 and WLOB 1310. All Atlantic Coast Radio. Subject here is T&R show.
From what I can see btw the 960 I mentioned doing Red Sox game is indeed WEAV Plattsburgh. They could indeed pick up T&R, perhaps.
[List of Red Sox affiliates still lists 101.3 for Burl market but again the sports stuff went to different frequencies as 101.3 switched to country.]

How do folks feel about local shows getting replaced by syndication? Good thing? Bad thing?

T&R are very excited about this, as most local hosts are when they get syndicated.

The "Morning Blend" on 790 WPRV is just re-runs of Ramsey, Levin, etc. The only "local shows" on WPRV are brokered hours, which are often scattered throughout the day and preempt synidcated fare.

Hmm could be.A Cumulus station (airing some of their Westwood One shows).
There's national syndication and also regional..like Howie's network, or iHeart saving money by running Jim Polito in Prov, Worc, Springfield.Yes syndie but specific to a region and can be good.

I'm interested to see what tweak this does to the show. We were all thinking of Sports stations, but putting them on an Alternative station leads me to thinking that the show might shift in a direction more reminiscent of their WBCN show. Perhaps a hybrid between what it was on WBCN and what it has been on the Sports Hub for the last 12 years.

To me, it feels like Beasley is more open to the idea of going a bit down memory lane with what was the last years of WBCN (personality wise). Detouring for a second here, but anyone who listens to Hardy's show on 92.9 and is familiar with WBCN will know that the shows intro is his intro from his WBCN show with only one change to it. At the end, they replaced Dickie Barrett from The Mighty Mighty Bosstones saying "you are listening to 104.1 WBCN," to James and Lars from Metallica saying that "you are listening to Rock 92.9."

Not that they are looking to a resurrection of WBCN. Just that they are showing signs of being willing to lean into the nastolgia.

https://radioinsight.com/headlines/214388/wpkq-in-stunt-mode/ Officially Toucher and Rich are now part of a northern NE trimulcast of alternative WCYY Biddeford with signals in N Conway and Augusta
Listening today...it's a rock-leaning "alternative" format, almost active rock. Foo Fighters, Godsmack, Weezer, Muse, etc. Male-focused with few female artists (in fact, none that I've heard so far).

Toucher and Rich promos running between the songs are sports-focused, not just general entertainment talk, positioned as "a real New England show." The music format seems to fit well with sports talk. Music dayparts seem jockless so far, at least the midday and afternoon segments I've heard. (Update: I finally heard a break, web player caption says it's Brittany Rose on air).
