Peter Scolari Dies: Emmy-Winning ‘Bosom Buddies’, ‘Newhart’, ‘Girls’ Actor Was 66

Condolences to Bob Newhart and the cast. RIP!

Besides Newhart himself, how many cast members remain from either of his shows? Julia Duffy and the guys who played Larry, Darryl, and Darryl from Newhart are all I can think of. I think they're all gone from the 1970s show.

Newhart aired from 1982-90. The following were regulars who are still alive:
  • Jennifer Holmes as Leslie Vanderkellen, a maid at the Stratford Inn (1982–83)
  • Steven Kampmann as Kirk Devane, owner of the Minuteman Café (1982–84)
  • William Sanderson as Larry, Tony Papenfuss as his brother Darryl and John Voldstad as his other brother Darryl, backwoodsmen who live in the same town. The three take over the Minuteman Café following Kirk's departure. The two Darryls never speak until the final episode. (recurring 1982–84, main cast 1984–90)
  • Julia Duffy as Stephanie Vanderkellen, a maid at The Stratford and Leslie's cousin (1983–90)

"Newhart" was a big topic on last night's "Ghosts" as the young owners of a haunted mansion were trying to impress the man who had to approve their plans to make it a B&B. He thought they were going to be troublemakers and they tried to convince him they liked the same things he did. They said the B&B would be like the inn on "Newhart".

And of course he was Tom Hanks' best friend before anyone had heard of Tom Hanks, when they both dressed like women to live in a cheap apartment building.

He also starred in the sci-fi comedy series, "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids: The TV Show" for Disney, from 1997-2000, in which he played the role (Wayne Szalinski) that was originally played by Rick Moranis in the movie series of the same name.
Oh, yeah, that was a fun show. for the first two seasons, anyway.
