NYC just got a new throwback station from Audacy on 94.7 and was flipped from a country station. I wonder if Audacy will consider flipping KILT here in Houston.
The most surprising thing is that Country lasted that long in NYC. Of course, the signal was horrible in Manhattan and not very good in Long Island.NYC just got a new throwback station from Audacy on 94.7 and was flipped from a country station.
I'm not sure if this is really the case in Houston. KHMX is still fairly pop rock heavy. KBXX and KQBT are still currents-heavy. KMJQ is fairly soft for an Urban AC. KODA is as 80s heavy as ever. I don't think you can count on KKHH to play these songs, either.Very different situation in Houston. Already several stations playing that list of songs.
I think The Block format has less of an urban-lean (think KHTP in Seattle), in spite of the urban imaging. The Block 94.7 in NYC sounds a lot like the old Boom 92.1 we had here in Houston. Would be interesting to compare playlists, assuming those could be dug up from the old Boom format.
I had initially thought The Block type of format might be a future option for KROI, but doubtful if The Block is just a Boom clone. Boom did do better in raw numbers than the two formats that followed it.
I don’t see Audacy flipping KILT-FM. While it has issues, there is still enough of a Country audience left to keep it viable with some smart tweaks. I could see Audacy making some changes on KHMX before anything is done with The Bull.
I’ve given up on expecting anything interesting to pop up on KROI as long as it is under Radio One ownership. The fact that they resurrected a failed format pretty much indicates they are out of ideas. I do find it interesting that Praise continues to pump the 102.1 HD-2 simulcast in its branding, as if to say “If we disappear from 92.1 again you’ll know where to find us.”
If Mix doesn't improve its fortunes, it may be likely. But Mix, being Top 5 in cume, may have enough billing to stay on air.Is Houston mix 965 going to change
Mix is top 10 in billings and 11th to 12th in 25-54. If anything, it will make adjustments based on research. A format change blows away what was, pre-COVID, billing in the $12 million range and sets it back to zero.Is Houston mix 965 going to change
Manhattan is only 1.6 million in a market of 19.3 million. And if you have spent any time there, it's doubtful that there are many closet country listeners there. The real issue is that the signal barely touched the key parts of Nassau Country and did not hit Suffolk at all.The most surprising thing is that Country lasted that long in NYC. Of course, the signal was horrible in Manhattan and not very good in Long Island.
KRBE is the #4 or 5 biller in the whole market. They don't need to do anything with it,Do you think Houston will get a new radio station what kind of music will it play they need to do something with krbe 104
It is technically a Hot AC, so its playlist is dependent to a great extent on currents. It goes with the flow, just like CHR.Mix 965 play list is not good in the 90s they played 80s and 90s
Who would've thought KRBE's adult approach would continue to pay off, even if KRBE is not one of the leaders in market share?KRBE is the #4 or 5 biller in the whole market. They don't need to do anything with it,
I’m pretty sure you mean 106.9. You would also get 97.1. If you’re awake, there’s tropos going on so you’ll probably hear a bunch of Houston stations.I live in. trinity tx I don't pick up some of the station in Houston the only station I picked up from Houston is 1075 the eagle
KODA, KTBZ, KILT, KMJQ, KRBE. The last three are in a near tie. That is based on 2019 numbers as the pandemic made everything rather crazy for 2020.But David, for reference, is it possible for you to reveal the Top 5 Houston radio stations in billing?
KODA, KTBZ, KILT, KMJQ, KRBE. The last three are in a near tie.
We have to remember that no matter where we get the numbers, either from in-Market Miller-Kaplan (in theory confidential) or one of the data aggregators, the data all depends on how stations report. The main issue is with clusters, where the internal allocation of revenue on multi-station buys can be quite arbitrary.Interesting that KILT is out selling their higher rated competition.
It has traditionally been a top 3 biller in the market. Not changing.NYC just got a new throwback station from Audacy on 94.7 and was flipped from a country station. I wonder if Audacy will consider flipping KILT here in Houston.
