Didn't they at one point broadcast the racing from Suffolk Downs too?

When I was in high school (60s), they had a quiz show on Sundays among the local schools. Medford High was the "home team" for Wellington Circle, and I must admit, they won most of the contests.

Once again reupping my plea, as a fellow historian, that you find somewhere to archive your research that's more searchable and permanent than ephemeral message board posts at a site that could disappear at any second.

I'm sure @DavidEduardo could help you with some space on World Radio History!

Something that I am considering posting, is an aircheck of Dale Dorman after he was at WRKO, and before he was at Kiss 108. A few of you will know where, but a lot of you, including myself when I found out, will be greatly surprised!

Dale? Definitely at WBCN. 😆

I wouldn't know. I'd assume it was a Top 40 station.

Dale was actually fired from WVBF that is why he never made any reference to his tenure at F105. His 1st shift at Kiss 108 was in the studio while everyone else was at the Kiss Concert.

Kiss didn't go straight top 40 till 89 or so
#1 hits on Kiss in 81 include Heartbeat, you're the one for me and Fantastic Voyage

Although I'm not or never have been a fan of Kiss, I have been to the Kiss Concert (aimed to take my girlfriend at the time, who ended up having to work, so ended up going with her sister). That was roughly 2002. I remember it being towards Dale's end at Kiss. When he came out on stage, I was shocked as to how old he looked at the time. I remember hearing him on Oldies about a year later and thinking it was more fitting for him at the time.

I guess in a technical sense, it was Steve Rivers at the helm who Standardized Kiss 108 as a much more straight forward CHR station. He was always on record stating "I am not here to change Kiss 108, but just to give it a fresh paint job!" Most CHR's in both the Northeast and Southwest continued with a heavy induced Rhythmic leaning format anyway. It was Steve Ivey? in 1995, who pushed the denominator over the line into much more pop-rock leaning, over dance oriented music instead. The first grand foray pronouncing this new direction, was adding Hootie and The Blowfish "Hold My Hand" by the 2nd week of January back in 1995.

BTW, whatever WXKS-FM wanted to be, they still had to entirely adhere to Billboard's rules, if they wanted to maintain their status as a CHR reporter, which they were, even during the early to mid 80's forward.
