October PPM’s

https://ratings.****************/content/arb047

The dumpster fire of V-103 continues its collapse, to what I read on another site is its lowest ratings since the 70s. Hard to believe this is due to one person leaving regardless of popularity.

Q overtakes Power again, and 94.1, 105.3 and 101.5 remain largely stagnant.

I believe the numbers for 105.7 are close to the lowest iHeart has ever had with a Spanish format in Atlanta.

Barry, that thread pertains to the September numbers.

One thing that surprised me in the October monthly is a Hispanic station in Buford that can't be heard in most of the market had double the audience of WBZY. I realize Gwinnett is where a lot of that audience came from, but I still wonder if those numbers are the result of some fluke.

Doesn't WLKQ 102.3's numbers include the WTSH 107.1 simulcast?

Correct, they are listed like WSBB and WSB which simulcast and are combined. I think the NW GA 107.1 + south ATL translator 107.1 + 102.3 seems to cover the area well enough, at least on paper. I’ve never listened to them really but have gotten a solid signal on 107.1 in Cobb County.

WFOM is punching well above its weight on a limited signal. From a .2 in August, to a .5 in September, now a 1.1 in October.
I truly wish their translator W271CV 102.1FM would boost their power from 80W to 250W. Love this station but it doesn’t reach far outside the perimeter.

V-103's tumble is remarkable. But these days it seems numbers for youthful Urban and Rhythmic formats are not great. In NYC, UAC WBLS is #2. But the youthful urban stations, Power 105 and Hot 97 combined, don't equal WBLS's rating. In DC, two UAC stations, WMMJ and WHUR, are always near the top. But WPGC and WKYS are never in the top 10.

In Atlanta, WALR is #3 and WAMJ is #7. Meanwhile, V-103 sits at #10. It wasn't long ago that V-103 was #1 or just behind WSB, month after month.

Perhaps V-103 should consider a more Urban AC approach? I know it’s already a crowded field, but they’ve got to do something to stop the bleeding. Newer urban/hip hop stations are indeed struggling nationwide. A lot of listeners are streaming instead since a) it’s a younger format and b) the content is so edited on radio that in some cases every other word is chopped out and radio edits that replace the words aren’t generally released for strictly hip hop songs.

It looks like 105.3 The Beat is around a 1.5 share station. Considering the signal, and if iHeart really wants Breakfast Club cleared in ATL, that’s not bad. But WALR’s signal is only slightly better than WRDG’s and it doesn’t seem to be harming their numbers.

I am really surprised the even have the signal they have. They are directional which most likely means they are "protecting" a preexisting signal. I suspect it is the Dallas 102.1:

I guess they could buy or LMA WDPC or pay them to find another channel but even then there is 102.3 WLKQ that could limit them from increasing antenna height or upping the wattage to 250 watts to get almost FCC class A FM coverage.

WDPC would probably not sell or lease.. and I am guessing. However, they are owned by a group of churches that own three or four AM stations in west Georgia. 102.1 is their second FM translator and it was just licensed in September 2021. The translator covers two of their AM stations (WDPC & WDCY). I would wonder whether money motivates them.

"We are the Voices of the Old time religion. WDCY AM1520, WNEA AM1300 with 104.9 FM, WDPC AM1500 with 102.1 FM. Word Christian Broadcasting in Douglasville, GA."

This is another FB link. It is pics of their Newan transmitter tower and the translator antenna.

Here is the Dallas 102.1 antenna and tower. Interesting that it is not one of the AM 1500 towers. I know those well because I was working their when the station signed on in 1979 as WKRP, Dallas GA. The AM had a much better signal in the beginning because the transmitter was in a swamp. They cut off the water going to the swamp to build an industrial park in the area and that had an immediate effect on the signal. The bridge to the transmitter got washed out regularly, and I would have to put on hip waders to get to the transmitter building and to the base of the towers for weekly readings.

V-103 and HOT 107.9 have both fallen off. The musical chairs of personalities plays a major part. Both stations always had main stays in most of their previous day parts for years!

On another note Cumulus needs to broaden the playlist on OG 97.9. Its the same “classic hip hop” songs on repeat and little to no Atlanta hip hop songs.

I don't see Star 94 format going anywhere with their latest format. It's too broad. They play a decent song and then jump into a totally different rap tack that does not compliment what they just played. It's like going from a Madonna song to Missy Elliott.
