AM Frequency of the Week: 1110

Days, a weak KRPA Oak Harbor, WA with S. Asian programming. Reception varies.

Nights, KBND Bend OR dominates, often (on good DX nights) with slapback echo on Coast To Coast show from KFAB, Omaha.

I heard and logged KDIS Pasadena when they were still Radio Disney, playing pop. Was cool to hear. This was obviously 2012-2014 or so (after I took up DXing again, and before the R Disney pop music shutdown).

@ Cyberdad, or someone else here: Who sang that Halloween-ish 'The Legend of Sleepy Hollow' ? I've heard it was by the Monotones, the Silhouettes or the Devotions ......
Bing Crosby provided vocals for the Disney animated version in the early 1950s. Not sure about ther others who covered it. You might be able to rule out the Devotions. They were a one hit doo-wop wonder with "Rip Van Winkle'. You might want to try Googling the song and see what you come up with.

From NW San Antonio:

Day: Heavy splatter from local KDRY

Sunset: The splatter is reduced when aiming N-NE, and I can hear KVTT in Mineral Wells. KFAB can sometimes be heard underneath or mixing in, and it comes up fairly strong when KVTT signs off.

Night: It's KFAB with a strong signal. On rare occasions I've heard a very weak WBT underneath when aiming NE. To the NW there's still some splatter from KDRY, and I've heard XEWR in Ciudad Juárez and KEJL in Humble City, NM, a few times before their sign-offs.

Sunrise: KFAB is still strong. When propagation is really good, I'll occasionally hear a weak but readable WBT underneath. KVTT takes out KFAB when it signs on for the day. Aiming NW/SE, XEWR has a fairly good signal. Sometimes I can briefly hear a very weak KTEK in Alvin, TX, when it signs on. Later KEJL takes over with a fairly listenable signal for a while. (Using a narrow bandwidth helps a lot.)

DX/Retro: One-time catches include KRDC in Pasadena and gospel daytimer KTTP in Pineville, LA (cheating late at night). I used to hear XEOQ in Rio Bravo and XERED in Mexico City before they were retired, as well as WTOF in Bay Minette, AL, which has been silent for a while.

KRDC is a very good catch where you are. They have a very effective nighttime null to the east.

San Jose, California

Day:::KLIB... Very very weak. To much co-channel splatter from 1100 KFAX and 1120 KZSJ, buts it there.

Nights::KDRC out of Pasadena is the more dominate station, with a KFAB out of Omaha every so often pushing them aside. There are other stations fading in and out, so it can be a bit of mess.

That's been my experience in the Bay area going back to the KRLA days. Although as often as not when I've been in So Cal, KFAB gets the better of things as often as not in the Inland Empire.

Yes you don't have to go very far east of LA to lose 1110 in Pasadena. During the days when they were KRLA I'd lose them just east of San Bernardino at night.

West Central Georgia:
Nighttime: Strong WBT signal
Daytime: Nothing except in winter when WBT often can be heard most of the morning and then again in the late afternoon
Critical hours: Was pleased to learn I can catch KFAB some winter mornings as the WBT signal weakens and the path between Georgia and Nebraska is still mostly dark; other early morning catches include KXTT Mineral Wells TX, WTIS Tampa FL, KGFL Clinton AR and WSLV Ardmore TN.

KAGV Big Lake-houston from 200 miles NW fairly well every day after sunset
