I grew up in North Dakota and instantly thought that the presence of Fargo stations on the cable system was interesting. Those transmitters for KXJB and KTHI were a long ways away from Bottineau. I suppose the residents wanted a "big city" presence on the cable system.

I think it is more that KTHI was the only full-time ABC station in the whole state. We had KTHI on cable out in Dickinson in this same timeframe. I'm also guessing that KXJB was sent on the same microwave system, as when Dickinson's CBS/ABC station KDIX would show ABC programming, the cable company would swap KTHI with KXJB so people could watch the CBS programming not being shown by KDIX.
