WABC 770 going off the air for maintenance tomorrow night

A DX alert for everyone on the east coast, as WABC 770 will go off for a maintenance period tomorrow night beginning around 10:00 PM EST (9 PM CST) and will be off for possibly a significant time overnight. This is a rare opportunity for y'all back east to look for Latin America, KKOB, or other needed stations on 770 khz.
The IRCA group was given notice this morning by Wayne Heinen and Les Rayburn of the Courtesy Program Committee (who has ran a bunch of DX tests in the past).

Well that will be an awesome opportunity for the easteners! Now we need KKOB to do that and then get a CME...🤞

Thanks for the heads up! I'll be traveling for work tomorrow evening and definitely will look for something on 770. Luckily I will mostly be in a rural area with minimal interference.

Thanks for letting us know WABC will be off the air!

I will sure be listening to SDRs in the East, especially the ones in Philadelphia and central Jersey.

Anyone know how far east KKOB has ever been heard?

(K)KOB was heard in the NYC area during the 1965 New York blackout, as I recall someone saying on here years ago.

San Juan PR, Miami, New England, The Maritimes.

Was an easy log back in the earlier 60’s when WABC was off every Monday Morning. So, with WABC off it should be there for most DXers, unless the YV and HJ stations are favored by conditions.

KCBC-AM is also on 770 but the coverage is limited to the west coast not so sure if any DX'ers heard this station outside it's coverage area but KKOB and WABC are the bigger stations here

WABC will be signing off the air in approximately an hour or so if this works out! The maintenance period supposedly begins at 2200, 10:00 PM ET.

Actually, WABC remained on the air because their transmitter is over in Jersey.

Dan Ingram tells the story of how he drove out to the transmitter after the power went out in the New York studio.

"On November 9, 1965 the Northeast was hit by a major blackout. Dan Ingram was on the air and did not know what was going on as the lights started to dim and the music slowed down. Dan's reaction was priceless. Dan tells the story with the actual aircheck: (3.6 mins.)"

The central Jersey SDR is too busy to get on so I'm on the one in Philadelphia where WABC just made the announcement about going off the air.
.....................

Still on the air after 10 pm.

I found this which says they will be going off the air from 11 pm - 5 am.

Two stations battling it out on the K3FEF SDR right now. Music with Spanish announcer on top, a weaker signal also with music underneath. For about 30 seconds, WABC resurfaced with a signal that overpowered them both though not as strong as full-power, same right-wing talker who was on before 11:00.

Been checking SDRs around the east to see what I can get and it's mostly static or Spanish but on the one in Bakersville, North Carolina, I'm hearing a weak talk station fading in and out.

I know it's not KKOB. Wondering what it is.

No ID so far.

Hearing it also on the Atlanta receiver under the Spanish station.

I'll bet money on WVNN Athens AL (250 watts).

OK...that must have been a recent change. They are now 7KW daytime. Used to be 5KW-D/250W-N.
