Moving from Philly earlier this year, this will be my first holiday season in LA, and I'm curious- where should I expect to find the ho-ho-holiday hits? I believe that KOST is the mainstay, with a chance of KKGO flipping full-time as well? Any other stations in-market or rimshots that I may be able to pick up in the car while out & about?

Kkgo go country 105.1 will flip to Santa music but not till closer to the end of the month. They have since 2016. Anyway it's Kost turn. Both NYC will soon if not already and Chicago iheart has gone Xmas. La's turn

It looks like Chicago and Phoenix are the exceptions among the IHearts. Lite FM in NYC just did a rather long "Here Comes The Christmas Music Bit" followed by "Counting Down The Days till 24/7 Christmas Music" and Shakira's Whenever song. So....November 11th for most of them I suspect.
 
Kind of surprised that KOST has not yet flipped to all-Christmas music. They have usually been ahead of KEZ 99.9 FM in Phoenix, but KEZ flipped two days ago on Thursday and KOST is still playing the regular light AC music this weekend. Maybe next Thursday on Veteran’s Day? I am also wondering when KYXY in San Diego will flip. That’s another station in Southern California that plays all Christmas music.
 
The PPM Survey dates for the next two periods are:

December 2021: Thu. November 11 – Wed. December 8
Holiday 2021: Thu. December 9, 2021 – Wed. January 5, 2022

Therefore, Nov. 11 or 12 would be a good guess for stations such as KOST + WLTW which haven't flipped yet.
Otherwise, no later than Nov. 19 for sure.
 
Your gonna have alot of angry people and probably lost listeners if they wait till nov 19. They should have flipped this past Friday.

They are in PPM markets, so they have the Holiday book to bank on, too.

I think it’s tied to Disneyland’s Christmas launch. Incidentally KOST also continues the music until New Years in-line with Disneyland.

Funny how it’s so expected now. The wall to wall Christmas music success was discovered by accident after 9/11.

Too bad, LA doesn’t have an additional AC station like San Francisco or Sacramento where they can hear soft rock.

No, it was "discovered" by K-EZ in Phoenix almost a decade before 9/11.

And one of the factors that made Disney keep Christmas going until New Years is the large Hispanic population. There was even thought of extending parts of the celebration special all the way until Three Kings Day.

For many years in my home Christmas was the religious celebration, with midnight Mass. The gifts were given for Three Kings Day in accordance with their giving to the Christ child.

But Santa Claus and holiday sales at the stores have changed that in many nations.

True and it could also be said about KSFI in SLC, but it didn’t proliferate around the country until after 9/11.

I remember having to fill in and cover a 12 hour shift playing Christmas music midnight to noon on Christmas Day one year. because we were short staffed. Back then we played the music off of CDs and carts. I got paid double time and and half due to Group W’s generous policy.

Yes, this is a very important point David. As a Catholic, I grew up celebrating Christmas until Three Kings Day, which is on January 6th. This is why it has always annoyed me that stations like KEZ, who start the Christmas music well before Thanksgiving, end it right away at midnight Christmas night and go back to their normal AC format. For many, the Christmas season BEGINS on Christmas Day, not ends. The “12 Days of Christmas” start on Christmas Day and end on Three Kings Day. So that’s why I appreciate radio stations that continue playing Christmas music through New Year’s Day like KOST did a couple of years ago and the holiday stations on SiriusXM.

I believe this is why Disneyland almost always continues their Christmas celebration through January 6th. This year, their Christmas celebration runs until Sunday, January 9th, 2022. Disneyland goes through the traditional Christmas celebration season. Most places do not.

This is true. And when I listen to multiple Christmas music stations across the country, KEZ continues to be one of the best. They do a good job of playing the classics with a little bit of contemporary Christmas hits. I don’t know who programs the Christmas music at KEZ, but they do it right. I just wish they would continue the Christmas music through New Year’s Day and not end it so abruptly at 12:00 midnight Christmas night.

Ah, the holiday shift stories. At KHJ in LA, our morning guy always did New Year's even, sort of like Seacrest. But he'd do the last minute at 11:59 and then do the overnight show.

One year, he arrived pretty well oiled, and the lady on before him called me. I got to the station fast and got his assistant to drive him home (turned out he wanted to go to a bar instead) and I did the show from about 12:10 until the part-timer who was going to do 6 AM could be woken up, dressed, filled with coffee and pushed towards Hollywood.

On the next work day, I did not get double time. Instead, the morning guy asked why I had F'ed with his show. By that time I had learned to ignore him most of the time.
