Kroq billing

BigA - gold is generally considered music greater than 3 years in age. That doesn't automatically equate to classic rock.

In 2015, Cumulus was still picking up the pieces from the Dickey's reign of terror. Agreed that the standalone status was a detriment.

KROQ did not try the formula I discussed earlier, to the best of my knowledge. KROQ skewed more toward teen punk crap, middle ground alternative artists, and novelty artists such as Daft Punk and largely avoided the nu metal / harder rock during the final decade of Weatherly's tenure.

Even better. They could put a sound-alike in LA instead of KCBS_FM and take the matching calls to SF. It's likely not considered to be worth the cost and effort.
Actually, David, if I recall correctly, the CBS sale to Entercom only granted the use of radio call letters duplicating CBS Television properties for ten years. So the AM in San Francisco and the FM in Los Angeles would need to be changed by fall of 2027.

And, more than casually likely, they did extensive research on that.

Every format is different. In CHR, gold may be 18 months or more, while in AC it may be four or five years.

It was not a determent... it was kiss of death for sales.

Got it wrong. 20 years on the call letters, so 16 to go.
Likely not a concern, but they could get ahead of it by changing both markets to a sound-alike.

Wouldn't it interesting if KNX did simulcast on 106.7--KROQ way-way back in the day was KPPC with an AOR format. And if memory serves me correctly 106.9 in the Bay was KMPX with an AOR format. If I'm right what goes around really does come around!

Audacy seems to be making changes to underperforming stations on a case by case basis. KROQ has already made a second round of music category changes (happened within past 60 to 90 days) since Kaplan's arrival. Morning show was also recently rebranded.

I think KROQ will stick around for at least all of 2022.

I don't like kroqs morning show at least w Stryker I put it on occasionally now I never listen. Woody show is far superior. Kroq morning show is weak

Near term (6 - 9 months) - very unlikely. Don't be surprised if another station in that cluster gets blown up in the same time frame however.
The lowest biller in the cluster is KTWV, and I doubt that one will be flipped as it has a "safe" format with good long-term results.

In any case, unless a station is seriously challenged in revenue, this is not a good time for a format change.
