Remember “Blockbuster Video”?

There's just 1 remaining operational Blockbuster Video store in the world. If I recall, there were one or two other holdouts in Alaska, but they've now closed. They still do video rentals, people donate old VHS tapes and DVDs to them all the time, and at one point they listed their store on Airbnb so you could have a movie night there, then stay the night. They mentioned one challenge is that the (original) computer system that handles membership and tracks inventory is now so old that they're having to treat those terminals with real TLC.

Bend, OR that is interesting though and that AirBNB Picture of their Bend OR location included a big screen TV with a VCR from the 1990's/early 2000's approx as their 90's night viewing party.

Yes, I visited the Bend, Oregon store in April of this year. I ended up buying just one DVD, "Richard Jewel", (the falsely accused Atlanta Olympic bomber), not because I really wanted to see it, but because I had to make one final purchase from Blockbuster. Set me back $4.99. I still haven't watched it!

Woah the current owners of Blockbuster in Bend, OR need to convert it into a museum of 1980's-2005 movies library with DVD's VHS, Lazer discs. That is what Blockbuster needs to become a non-profit entity. I know Dish Network at one point ran blockbuster name but that became Sling.

Remember when Blockbuster had its rental machine, similar to RedBox? You could return videos to the machine OR your favorite Blockbuster store!

Yes I remember some WalMart and Safeway locations had a Blockbuster rental machine along side with RedBox but the ones I been to were a DVD/Bluray rental machine that existed from the 2000's until they faded in 2019 because of Streaming TV's and Walmart had a section for Roku's and smartTV's that killed of redbox in some locations.

Is Blockbuster making a surprise comeback? Website raises eyebrows

Rumors are swirling that Blockbuster will be making a comeback — and it's all thanks to the company's website, which is suddenly live again.
The company is also active on social media.
On March 15, it posted the following on Twitter:
"New business idea: We're going to come back as a bank and use VHS and DVDs as currency. Time to go visit your mom."
Blockbuster, which was formerly known as Blockbuster Video, was an American-based provider of home video and video game rental services.
The company filed for bankruptcy in 2010, with a majority of its stores across the world closing by 2014.
In 2019, only one store remained open

Oh good lord, someone getting the keys to the website so to speak and having some fun with it isn't a comeback. I get that the news outlets will hype things, but this is stretching it even under those considerations.

Wait...So now you're also using the "good lord" thing? Have you been spending too much time around @Kelly A? Or for the conspiracy theorists among us..Are you and Kelly actually the same person???

One, this will never happen. Blockbuster is dead.

Two, if somehow the company is resurrected from the dead how long can it last. The blockbuster from the 90s will never happen again. What is their new business model to make this successful.

Pretty sure “good lord” is a phrase that has been used by more than one person in this world. Maybe more than two. I thought it perhaps a bit less strongly worded than the initial reaction looking at the “article” — one that might be abbreviated as FFS.

It seems the intended humor in some posts, tends to become lost on some here. Case in point.

Chris Thile of what was no longer "A Prairie Home Companion".
