WCVB is 50 years old

For those of you who don't know, WCVB is turning 50 years old in March. I did recently see a montage of old footage. But I remember a few years ago when WBZ turned 70 years old, they actually brought back some of the old promos, such as "The One 4 All" from 1980, and recreated it and showed them side by side. And they had a segment as part of their newscasts called "on this day." It would be nice if WCVB would do something similar. I wouldn't be surprised if they did.

Yes, it would be. They do have a collection of 100 photos put together for their 40th anniversary still on their site:

WCVB signed on 8 days after I was born. I remember watching the 15 year anniversary special when I also turned 15!

The first day Boston Broadcasters, Inc. (BBI) took control of the former Hearst WHDH-TV, not one---- but TWO -- backup AC generators at the station failed......Coincidence????!! Some have said "sabotage"..... Not sure if anything was ever resolved as to the reason for the double-fail......but I remember Jack Hynes doing a report after Generator #2 conked out.....!!

There is also a story that the WCVB transmitter was turned on "accidentally" more than once during prime time before the WHDH license expired.

Unlike the WNAC/WNEV transition, when RKO sold their facilities to the new license holder New England Television, there was a lot of animosity between BBI and Boston Herald-Traveler (the owners of the original channel 5, WHDH). Herald-Traveler refused to sell their facilities to BBI, which had to broadcast WCVB’s inaugural shows from an old International Harvester dealership in Needham, where they are located to this day.
