94.7 The Block

What do you think about 94.7 The Block??

Ratings predictions??

Is it competitive against WQHT (Hot 97), WWPR (Power 105.1), WBLS (107.5) or WNBM (Radio 103.9)??

It's Playlist is predictable but solid. Sounds good, upbeat and NY. I don't think it truly competes with the other hip, hop and urban stations but more with WKTU although it'll of course shave numbers of all of them to an extent.
I think it'll take more than a few books to get the feel of it's success.
Unfortunately it's signal causes issues in parts of Manhattan

My predictions:
- First four week ratings survey will be in the 2.5 to 3.0 share range (AQH share, ages 6+).
- Second four week ratings survey will be in the mid 3 share range.

Z100 and WKTU will be the stations most likely to suffer a ratings dip.

My estimate: First four weeks 1.1 and second 4 weeks 1.0 (will be in full Thanksgiving to Christmas season).

November is October 14 to November 10. The Block came on the air on October 22, a week into the November book.

If the numbers continue to bump along in the low 1's after ho-ho-ho season, will it still be able to bill more than it did as a country station?

Aren't they running commercial free now? Hard to bill anything without any spots.
I was referring to the period after the holidays, when, presumably, the commercials will begin. The "still" was in there to refer to the numbers in the 2's that it was getting with country music, assuming that management hopes the new format will maintain or improve on those ratings. If the new format bombs, would the flip still have been a good idea, revenue-wise?

The old format was billing $2 million a year. Hard to pay all the expenses in NYC with $2 million.

I know some non-profit stations in NYC with a bigger budget. So the country format was DOA.

I heard a conversation on WFAN yesterday that reminded me again of how foreign country music is to NYC. The hosts were talking about the possibility of Freddie Freeman, the Braves star, coming to the Yankees as a free agent. One said no way, because Freeman had recently been a presenter on the Country Music Association Awards show, and New York is no place for anyone like that. Big laughs from the co-host, who said "But Mickey Mantle was country!" Other co-host: "He didn't host the CMAs!" On and on it went, New Yorkers laughing at country music and people who listen to it, although one of them said he wouldn't mind seeing Chris Stapleton do a show at Yankee Stadium if Freeman could arrange it.

Saw some of my female FB friends gushing about it, saying how it reminds them of high school. One posted a pic of her car radio set to the station saying it's her new preset! And these are non-radio people who never post anything about radio, it was just on their timelines. So based on that little anecdotal observation, I'm thinking The Block might be onto something.

1.4 22nd.
Z100 5.1 4th sweet.
That includes week 1 which was still country. The average of weeks 2 to 4 is a 1.0.

The lowest week was week 4.

After seeing the numbers for a commercial-free first three weeks, I think that my estimate is too high.
