1560 being heard NORTH at night

Is 1560 running the day site at night or is the night site having problems?? 1560 is heard blasting north at night into Minn, etc according to reports on FB. Night site shouldn't be doing that..

Chris,

I heard 1560 almost nightly in Wyoming.

I've heard it twice in Alaska

this is nothing new, it's been going on for several years, one Houston engineer described the dual site operation as "A hot mess"

Here's how well 1560 KGOW was known to make it to Alaska, an audio recording: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Ee_K8phOwix2pjwi8QgcJOYCdlRUi1DL/view?usp=sharing

KGOW is still using the night site during the day. Haven't heard the day site on the air in a very long time. Very possible the night site is out of whack.

That Google Drive audio is dated September 26, 2019 and does not contain a station ID, other than announcing the "Voice of America," but does go into Vietnamese language which KGOW has broadcast for several years now.
For the record, there's a "Resumption of Operations" form on FCC.gov that states:
"Date station went silent: 09/18/2019" followed by "Date station commenced operation: 10/11/2019"
David Gow e-signed the document on 10/14/2019.
"On paper," KGOW was silent, but maybe was undergoing testing at the time OR perhaps the date on the recording is not accurate.

The date is accurate, the recording is accurate and ikt is KGOW despite no id heard, i know exactly what I heard .. other times, KGOW ID's were heard before or after VOA in vietnamese, but i didnt record it.

I heard them on in Kansas City last night, weak but there.

I've noticed that they have been audible here at my QTH, ~100 miles to the east, both day & night.

Day and night sites both working just fine.
If the day site is “working” KGOW is NOT using it. As I posted earlier in this thread (and others) they’ve been on the night site full time for quite a while. At my northwest Harris County location this is easy to discern with a ferrite rod portable radio as the two sites are 90 degrees apart.

Just checked 1560 as I posted this Saturday afternoon and KGOW is on the night site.

MediaFrog,

MediaFrog, I appreciate the information, but I was just down at the day site this afternoon. The transmitter is on the air.

KGOW has been a pest to the north for well over a decade at this point. Its damn near as clear as a local in DFW in the late afternoon and in the morning. I haven't bothered to check it at night in quite some time but its usually always there.

I believe KNGR up in Daingerfield at one time cited KGOW interference as one of the many reasons the station struggled to survive.

I have DF’d the KGOW day signal several times the past few days, and it is consistently coming from the night site. Not a misinterpretation on my part, as both the KGOW night site and the KYND site are due west of my location, and both DF in the same direction when making my checks.

Note that the main lobe of the KGOW night site is aimed directly at the day site location. Any evidence of the day site being on the air other than hearing a good signal in its vicinity?

I recall reading in filings that KNGR would get clobbered during critical hourse (sunrise to 2 hours after) and 2 hours before sunset to set by KGOW.....
