I have very strange work hours caused by clients in odd time zones. The worst was when I was dealing with a new FM in Pakistan and some research projects in the Emirates.I see posts early in the morning, morning, afternoon, evening. Not that I'm complaining, I wish I could do that.![]()
Ah, that is precisely when I'd do transmitter maintenance of my stations when I owned a bunch of 'em in Ecuador. To late to party, too early for Sunday Mass. Perfect time to make sure the transmitters were clean and healthy!Maybe between about 3:00 and 6:00 a.m. on Sundays. That was about the DEADEST shift that I EVER worked!
I remember that overnight Saturday/Sunday shift at a Classic Rocker with some currents. You had the drunks calling in until 2am or so until they passed out, with some very late partiers after that.Maybe between about 3:00 and 6:00 a.m. on Sundays. I seriously would have tracked some albums during that time frame!I remember that overnight Saturday/Sunday shift at a Classic Rocker with some currents. You had the drunks calling in until 2am or so until they passed out, with some very late partiers after that.
I did not have that option.I seriously would have tracked some albums during that time frame!
After about 2 AM you also got the "ladies" who could not get dates that night, confirming the statement that "the sexier the voice, the uglier they are".I remember that overnight Saturday/Sunday shift at a Classic Rocker with some currents. I LEFT a station because the then-GM was delusional about the fact that we had NO listeners during that time. This was a rinky-dink AM station that was probably once a great station. But I must have been right. Less than a year after I left, they became a talk station. So my remaining shifts would have been eliminated anyway.I did not have that option.
This was a 50000 watt Class B in a medium market with a promotional budget. Fully understood. I later worked overnights for 10 years in shortwave. We had plenty of listeners, too! This was a 50000 watt Class B in a medium market with a promotional budget. We did have listeners
I thought those ladies had "radio voices".After about 2 AM you also got the "ladies" who could not get dates that night, confirming the statement that "the sexier the voice, the uglier they are".
I knew a guy named Mike who used to have a show overnights from Guam (it was called "Night Beat"). You wouldn't be him would ya?Fully understood. I later worked overnights for 10 years in shortwave. We had plenty of listeners, too!
I did meet one exception who was pretty nice, nice looking and was driving home late from South Bend, IN to a county north of Lafayette because she was doing a direct sales party plan thing. She'd always request "In Your Eyes", and this was around the time my first marriage was breaking up. It never went anywhere but we did hang out a little bit.I thought those ladies had "radio voices".
I met one of those "ladies". Her name was Genie and she said that she didn't like automatic transmission but didn't drive!I thought those ladies had "radio voices".
Partying all night then showing up for Mass might piss off the priest a little!Ah, that is precisely when I'd do transmitter maintenance of my stations when I owned a bunch of 'em in Ecuador.
